OK gonna do a thread! OTOH, the idea of the "pirate" was used as the photo negative to define the idea of a legitimate sovereign in a developing international order, and express ambivalence. One of the most popular piracy memes from ~1550-1700 is an apocryphal tale from Cicero by way of Augustine.

marquee of the Fox
Spent the last two magical evenings with Gillian Welch & David Rawlings (with Paul Kowert on bass, and Grahame Lesh joining for the encore on Friday) at the Fox as they channeled the Dead. Still levitating.

What a game!
I used it this year after 20 years of TurboTax. $100 cheaper. Worked fine as far as I can tell, and the interface is better as a bonus.
my dentist now offers out his dog Molly as an emotional support animal during visits. she only left when he started up the noisy polisher
If you have Hungarian friends, please check in on them. Netflix has nothing on this election campaign: a twisting spy scandal, Russian meddling, Orbán off the rails. And we still have four days left.
I wrote a (still slightly incredulous) rundown 👇

book on shelf, Heads: A Biography of Psychedelic America
holy wow, just realized my book "heads: a biography of psychedelic america" came out 10 years ago this week. available from da capo press through fine independent purveyors of paper, electronic, & audio books! what a baffling time-dilated trip it's been? www.dacapopress.com/titles/jesse...
Gotta say it's amusing that this stop isn't just called "Microsoft"
Ha, will wave on my way back. Finishing up a delicious lunch at the British Pantry in downtown Redmond.

Warren Ellis, Jim White, and Mick Turner in blue light
Caught Dirty Three last night at Neumos on Capitol Hill! Nearly three hours of swells, rhythms, and yelling (occasionally joined by the crowd). Warren Ellis spoke at length between songs, and dedicated the evening to Mark Lanegan, which garnered appreciative and bittersweet applause from the crowd
Highly recommend the "family bedroom" when they're old enough to have fun on a train. There's only one per car and because it's at the end of the hall you get windows out both sides! I traveled that way with my folks several times under the age of 10.
For the purposes of computing, we always need to approximate π. In JavaScript, `Math.PI` is the nearest 64-bit floating point number to the true value of π. My proposal is that for consistency and symmetry we should introduce `BigInt.PI`
just booked the Empire Builder from Seattle to Wisconsin in July. I'm doing my part!

beautiful!
Excellent inspiration for what to do if I'm in Seattle more this winter. I too have the pirate ship counterpart, iirc!

Lovely Built To Spill show at the Neptune tonight. Jim Roth joined to add an extra guitar for the 40-minute encore. The trio is great, but I miss those extra guitars, so it was awesome to have Jim back for a whole set
