The Question

Erm, well – I begin, shifting nervously in my chair –
if it’s true there is no heaven and no hell,
no eternity or long hereafter,
no divine plan or offstage direction from an invisible hand,
then how do we make sense of it all,
how do we make our way through this life,
this glorious, ridiculous, ramshackle world of ours,
with its wars and brutality, conflicts and petty arguments,
the ten thousand tiny acts of kindness
which happen unnoticed before breakfast,
and all that love and pain, happiness and loneliness
that comes to us unannounced, by turns,
as if we ourselves were pitched daily
onto the waves of one of its vast, mysterious oceans,
not knowing whether today is the day we drown
or we find ourselves washed up
on some strange but friendly shore?

Mmm – you say, after a lengthy silence –
what I meant was … do you have any questions
about the job?

Monthnotes: March 2026 That’s a wrap.

March monthnotes are up.

Last ones as CDPS. From tomorrow, we become DPSW.

End of an era.

- Order and structure need energy
- From outputs to change
- Thinking in the open
- Lifeworlds and the death of the author

Cautiously optimistic. A bit tired. A bit excited.

I’d make the point that government guidance was always read indirectly, atomised, summarised or reinterpreted by people you don’t control. Not everyone reads the page on GOV.‌UK. Its content is rewritten, summarised and atomised all over the place.

Ha, I can kind of work out why it's been transcribed that way.

Santa Clara = "siarad yn fuan", which is "speak soon" in Welsh.

But overall they're just nonsense.

On the topic of automated transcriptions, my dad leaves me voicemails in Welsh and my phone has recently started transcribing them as if they were English.

He usually follows a similar format:

Shwmae Nia, it's dad. I'm calling about X. Give me a call. Okay.

These are my faves:

Remember the days when your feed was just BuzzFeed listicles and quizzes?

Huh...

Seems like a useful tool, and then... what?! 😅

I now find myself reading about concrete.

Does anyone have a good example of "progressive disclosure" in content design?

Something that could help show "the right info, at the right time" to someone new to UCD?

Rebecca Solnit Says the Left’s Next Hero Is Already Here

This happened. The print interview was edited in ways that feel very jumpy, but I got to say some things. Like: Maybe changing the world is more like caregiving than it is like war. Too many people still expect it to look like war. [and then there's a crazy jump-cut w/out transition.]

Reform have misspelt 2 out of the 3 Welsh words on their manifesto for Wales.

Nigel Farage and Wales leader Dan Thomas proudly held up the manifesto at the launch yesterday.

On the front cover it reads "Family, community, country," which has been translated to "Teulu, gymnued, wlad."
