It’s a dynamic that has developed naturally over time. At first when conceptually making Emma, I wanted them to just be friends. But I thought pretty quickly thought it would be more interesting to have them bonded together. I’m very happy with the direction this has gone.

Oh wow. That is incredibly thoughtful of you to make something of it from your art and to spread awareness. I never knew it existed either. I hope your sons are doing well despite the complications that comes with it.

I’m talking about how, from a game design and world building standpoint, being confined into a city that looks very similar throughout seemed like snooze fest to me. I loved playing Leaf Green and Ruby growing up because exploration was so intriguing and it was fun to go through unique biomes.

When I was watching a friend stream the game, I was baffled that the world was a city inside a round wall. The platforming itself looked kind of neat. But then I also saw how the different Pokémon zones were treated, and I thought, “This ain’t it. What is this crap?”

Question for you folks: What does Frida and Emma mean to you? I’m constantly astounded they’ve been received so well, considering I’ve never truly created and designed my own characters before 2021.
