Age headline on opinion piece: 'Love her or hate her, Melbourne in needs outspoken icons like Bec Judd' by Stephen Brook. The first par tells us that opinions vary about this woman and the second paragraph tells us she wore a red dress to the Brownlow Medal count in 2004. The rest of the article is similarly insightful.

Breathtaking bollocky bilge in The Age. 'Love it or hate it' is the first refuge of a dull headline writer to sit atop a collection of commentator-extruded paragraphs unburdened by insight.

On the other hand, no one ever lost money by telling billionaires what they want to hear. The airwaves are full of the oligarchs' minions, reciting their creeds as if these were some kind of arcane truth they've stumbled across. Almost every political conversation is dominated by these elite lies.

We claim to treasure free speech, above almost anything. But on the most critical issue, very few of us are free to speak. The majority are silenced by fear of censure or loss of employment. This conspiracy of silence looks more like what you'd expect in an authoritarian regime than in a democracy.

One problem is that many articulate, confident people are forbidden by the terms of their employment to speak out. To acquiesce in the power that threatens everything is acceptable and uncontroversial. To contest it brings your employer "into disrepute" and could have you sacked.

Almost everything we argue about is a substitute for the thing we should be arguing about: the immense wealth & power of an oligarchic class, which captures governments, ruins lives and wrecks the living planet.
This class redirects our rage at scapegoats. To resist its lies is to resist its power.

The NSW Premier ignoring the courts would be in line with his authoritarian role model Netanyahu, who has been pushing to undermine the separation of powers in Israel.

Minns must publicly accept and uphold the court's decision.

If he does not, he is unfit to hold office. #nswpol

This is a joke, right? I spent a good year doing EV stories with The Guardian. Nine in ten cars in Norway are EVs. It's 2026 and we're being treated to stories that read like it's 2019 in a fossil fuel crisis. There is no mention of climate change. The reporter is impatient. That's all we get.

Modern high yield crops on which we depend only produce that yield with several rounds of fertiliser application. A big proportion of that fertiliser can’t get out of the Middle East now. Millions of people are going to starve as a result of Bibi & Trump’s war.

In the same manifesto, Palantir's owners argued that we need a national military draft, that soft power is over, and that we were too hard on Germany and Japan after World War II. I don't think that company should be allowed to exist anymore.

The latest Truth Social post by Trump boasts of war profiteering from the illegal US blockade of Strait of Hormuz, while threatening war crimes against the Iranian people. All in a night’s work for an increasingly deranged US President. End AUKUS, free us from being part of this.

Carney says Canada's US ties have become a weakness As well as imposing tariffs on Canadian exports, Trump has repeatedly mused about annexing Canada.

'Australia's close ties to the United States were once a strength but have become a weakness' Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said.

Oh wait - that was Canada's PM Mark Carney.
For a moment there I was fantasizing that Australia had a real leader. #auspol

Honestly, the idea that the market that has utterly pummeled the environment is now going to magically be its saviour, is equal parts idiotic and insulting.

Many governments, including Australia, can and should massively increase environmental and conservation spending, it's an *investment*.

Just yesterday Labor bet everything in defence on binding us to the US. Trump didn’t even notice, let alone care, and has come out and attacked Australia anyhow. This is not a relationship of friends or allies, we are being held hostage and need to escape.

Save these Turtles! Turn the Water Back On!! Right now in wetlands near Moree, turtles are being pulled from the mud as the water disappears around them. It’s an environmental catastrophe.

I've started an urgent email campaign to demand the Water and Environment Ministers act now and save these turtles by ordering water be sent to the wetlands - take action now: www.catefaehrmann.org/gwydir_turtles

You will not believe what I've just seen. Hundreds of turtles stuck in the mud of a wetland in NSW that should be full of water and teeming with life. And a small dedicated team of scientists doing their best to rescue them. This is happening right now!

4 days ago 30 25 1 1

And it isn't because of a lack of rainfall. It's because the NSW Government stopped sending environmental water flows to the wetland a month ago - during breeding season - because a big cotton irrigator downstream has threatened to sue them if water was released and went onto his land 🤯

Understanding Viktor Orbán’s downfall: The demise of Europe’s outlier | Canberra Daily Bruce Dickinson, the lead singer of the metal band Iron Maiden once said: “Nothing lasts forever but the certainty of change”.

Two UQ-affiliated authors endorse #Orban's anti-immigrant position asserting (zero evidence) that the "disastrous" policy of multiculturalism undermines national identity. Both authors are (or have been) immigrants to Australia, from non-English speaking backgrounds. #auspol

I will never forgive Chris Minns
For making me feel unsafe
for indirectly causing the broken back of a woman my age by police
For training police in brutality
For making the public feel unsafe about protesting inhumanity to others
For censoring rightminded people, disallowing use of public space
