seems like we have the lit on pieces, but not sure they're put together enough? top factors seem like (a) p-ship; (b) weak actual commitment to democracy; (c) lack of sophistication needed to recognize threats; (d) first-order self interest; (e) media/horserace covg muddles reality; (f) others?
