Illustrated image divided into four panels, each showing a head of a bat with a text label. Top left: little guy, a regular looking back with a dark face and light colored fur, top right: little guy deluxe, a bat with a mask and large ears alongside a bat with a leaf shaped nose, bottom left: what is even going on here, a visored bat with a large forehead next to a bat with a large, wrinkly nose, bottom right: o hi doggie, a fruit bat with its tongue sticking out.
Contrary to popular belief, there are only four kinds of bats.

I one-shotted an undead necromancer in last night's session thanks to a crit. My character's reaction was "Ooops."
She has no idea what she is doing, just tries out moves from her favourite books, and somehow has the highest πcount.
I have also forced my party to adopt a baby fire snake...

On my way to a #DnD session and given that this is my #BookSkyπ account, I thought I share my character:
Female half-orc who grew up with her human professor dad at the academy, read too many adventure novels, and now went on her own first adventure.
I love her to bits.

I just read an article that said "Why is it taking so long for your favorite movies and tv series to air? Blame the writers and actor strikes"
No I won't. I'm blaming that β¨singleβ¨ motherfucker at the studio who makes $250 million dollars a year who's one job is supposed to make this shit happen.

A minotaur with a sword sunk in his chest and several cuts on his body, but from each cut flowers and flower petals flow instead of blood. His face looks sad and pleading, and he raises a hand as if to fend off an attacker.
New piece! I struggled with this one a lot back when I started it a year or two ago, but it finally came together nice and easy when I went back and took a second look at it. π

In my dreams, my heart
has a voice,
Sounding out all the truths
I seek to forget,
Reminding me that every day
Is an orphan
Of what once was
*our* future.

Hi! Any other writers π currently in the same situation?
I recently scrapped my WIP. I love its bones but I know I can do better. I know there is more to this story than this version (which was draft 12, beta and sensitivity read and fully edited).
Would love to have a writer group to work with!

I feel like I'm drowning, and you are the weight.
Once, I saw the surface and tried to reach up.
But then, I sank deeper,
Deeper,
And deeper still.
With darkness around me, I have lost the way.
So, you keep pulling me under, and I just breathe out.

Ok, I know I was all like "I will overcome my introverted nature and be more social online" and then vanished for two months.
But that's because I used all my social battery on IG and shared my fave books and my writing there.

We followed him, flocking to his side.
We believed ourselves birds, soaring with the truth.
Instead, we were sheep, grazing on his well-manured lies.

I've done this a little too much and now that our IT person has left our satellite office, the powers that be have decided that I can replace them in addition to my day job. Without extra pay.
It felt good until it didn't. π

Fully agree. I have a good friend who chose academia because she thought there is more integrity in it than private practice. She was at a major US university doing cancer research. the result was basically dictated as was the preferred presentation.
Never saw someone leave academia faster.

When she broke my heart, it was with a smile.
Just a smile, full of soft sadness, a wonder for what could have been and the smell of the half drunk coffee she left behind.
I had come with tickets to a show of her favourite artist in a month's time; she had come with twenty minutes to spare.

100 percent!
When I was a student, I did not fully appreciate how many papers are absolutely winging it.
Now with some working experience under the belt, whenever I research, I can't stop shaking my head at the utter nonsense some people present as truth.

The picture is a poster format list. The top is a frame of pink clouds on a dark blue sky. The front is a greyish half circle, listing a To Do. The "DO" is crossed out and replaced with "dare".
The list reads
Post reviews of the books read
Share my writing
Connect with other readers and writers.
If you are as much of a loner as I am, finding community is hard.
I still crave it though, especially when it comes to reading and writing. So, I will dare to share more (nobody likes to do lists).
Maybe you like the same type of dark fantasy? Or write as well?
Let's be friends, maybe? ππ

In the background, various books are open on a dark table. The pages are yellowed. Dried and fresh flowers are placed on the pages. A half drunk cup of coffee is in the top left corner. On the top right is a bookmark logo with the letters EK in gold. The number 2024 is written across the picture in off-white. Below it, on a vintage pink smudge, it reads "New Year, New Start" in all caps. Below are my social links to BSKY and IG (@emkellreadsandwrites).
Since I left X over a year ago, I promised myself to rebuild the feeling of community I had found there on BSKY and on IG/Threads.
In recent months, I found 180 other readers and writers here and almost 100 on IG. And I'm so glad I did.
I know it's not much but it means a lot to me. 1/2
