"We previously had decent progression, and we didn’t have a jobs crisis, and doctors were valued as they were back in 2008. That is not some fantasy standard that has never existed" - BMA RDC chair Jack Fletcher www.thetimes.com/article/0a68...
As in December, the BMA has again agreed a derogation for some obstetrics shifts in Nottingham due to unique, difficult circumstances. We attach the letter to Nottingham obstetrics residents below for more information. Thank you to colleagues who were otherwise preparing to strike for pay and jobs.
Dear America - keep doing the awesome stuff. Get rid of that orange idiot though.
The pay review body’s 3.5% pay ‘uplift’ is hugely disappointing for SAS and Consultants whose value and pay have been eroded for years. Senior doctors are standing together to push this Government to commit to improvements.
On the 11 May we will open ballots for Industrial Action in England.
To whoever did this at the #NoKings in Boston: Thank you.❤️
It made me tear up. And we must to be reminded of needless damage to humanity that results directly from the careless, bellicose bluster coming from the Pentagon and White House.
“We’ve had more than a decade’s worth of real terms pay cuts. Yes, there has been a good start to reversing that trend since 2024, and we fully recognise that, but it does need to continue on that journey towards restoring pay.”
@fletchjack.bsky.social talks to BBC Breakfast this morning 👇
99% have said no. GPs and GP registrars across England have overwhelmingly rejected the Government’s imposed contract changes for 2026/27.
These plans would pile unsafe, unfunded workload onto already stretched practices, putting patient care at risk.
BMA resident doctors committee confirms new strike dates after talks fail to make adequate progress
“Austerity left NHS in 'precarious position'”
“A collapse of the NHS was only narrowly avoided, the report says, because of the extraordinary efforts of its staff.”
And what is happening now? Financial constraints and further freezes on recruitment as well as MARS

Every senator who voted to confirm RFK Jr owns this tragedy. Every single one.

Sky News: Danish PM Mette Freideriksen’s note in the visitors book when she visited UK today
For those of us in the UK this is why the European Convention on Human Rights is important. You don’t know what’s coming next
This all seems pretty unbecoming of a FIFA Peace Prize winner
Marco Rubio is reportedly saying Maduro will stand trial in US courts.
Which means it’s now the US administration’s position that US courts can hold foreign presidents, but not the US president, accountable for crimes.
Quote from bbc story about slow discharges
I suspect this part of the story (probably along with Wes’s pronouncements on Flu - on the ground I don’t think it’s a major issue yet - my hospital has empty itu and ordinary beds atm)
Previous strikes have shown us that more consultants on the front line means better flow if anything
Nobody wants to be striking at any point. It’s a shame Wes and the government have driven residents to this.

The BMA and other trade unions stand together against anti-migrant rhetoric
The announcement of new asylum measures by the Home Secretary risks fuelling anti-migrant rhetoric.
We reiterate our solidarity with our colleagues, many of whom are being subjected to increasingly hostile treatment as a direct result.

Thank you @Ruth
Spotify is running ICE ads. I went to cancel on mobile and saw that this isn’t allowed on mobile. They make you cancel on desktop. You think that’s gonna stop me, Spotify? I will erase you and forget you ever existed.
THOU SHALT CANCEL SPOTIFY!!!
Do you know what? It IS working. It hasn't caused tailbacks, quite the opposite actually. More importantly it's saved the lives of at least a dozen kids. Reform are actually campaigning for the return of more deaths and injuries. Absolutely bonkers.
SAS Week kicks off next week!
We’re proud to be joining forces across all four nations – alongside @nhsemployers.bsky.social – to shine a spotlight on SAS doctors.
From policy wins to career progression, there’s been real progress in every nation. www.bma.org.uk/news-and-opi... #SASWeek25
67% in favour of taking action if things can’t be turned around. That’s a fairly clear message
The only country to have left the ECHR in this century is Russia... and they were expelled.
Is that really the example you want Britain to follow?
This is appalling. Not only is this tolerated on x but it is being tolerated in our communities. It should not be accepted on line or in the real world
