Excellent article by @danc.bsky.social in @novaramedia.com based on his interview with US antifascist researcher @letsgomathias.bsky.social, drawing out the lessons for UK anti-fascism. Key point is that we need to maintain the social cost of holding fascist beliefs.

Clive Lewis: “We confront [the history of slavery] honestly not as an act of self-flagellation but because the alternative – the insistence that power never has to account for itself – is exactly the logic that makes atrocities possible in every generation.”

Nice article by @rsmsflschr.bsky.social on how the left in 1864 faced some of the same divisions over Russian imperialism in Poland as it does over Russian imperialism in Ukraine today (and why Marx was on the correct side then).

I was a teenage anti-racist/anti-fascist activist in Exeter in the late 1980s. A small number of uni students were central in a number of anti-racist groups. If the Exeter Flying Post (1976-2012) is archived or digitised somewhere that would be a great source; or happy to talk about this if helpful.
I've always shied away from social media – but current times have changed this. The categories shaping our lives are being challenged rapidly & profoundly. That's why I've launched FoD: to explore where these trends are leading. The future of difference isn't predetermined - join the conversation

Sadly, I found this pretty mediocre, despite being a fan of the boss. I prefer him when he is more restrained, but this rocks out a bit too much. The Qawwali vocals on “Worlds Apart” (by Asif Ali Santoo Khan) are quite interesting though.
Have been re-listening and so far I like “The Fish” and “Mood for the Day” but yep long instrumental passages don’t do it for me. I do however appreciate the prominence of the bass. Will listen to their earlier work!
Maybe I need to listen again. I was OK with “Roundabout” but cumulatively track after track wore me down. I wonder if I’ve been retrained by streaming, as one thing I’ve realised listening to these LPs so far is that any band is interesting for 3 minutes and very few are interesting for 50 minutes.
Was intrigued to listen to this as it’s a band I’ve never spent any time with, but found it hard to wade through: tedious and pretentious. Fun fact: my sister used to work as a cleaner for the guy that designed the album cover.

In Marseille for a @liminalwater.bsky.social meeting.
This is the first one I’ve had which I have actually listened to as an album. It’s sheer perfection — easily his best. Every track is a gem but the standout for me is probably “State Trooper”.
My heart sank when I saw I had to do more early 80s hard rock, but I actually enjoyed this and really energised me soundtracking a day of typing to meet a major deadline.
To be honest I struggled with this one. I recognise the amazing musicianship, and the (right-wing libertarian?) lyrics are interesting, but this is so not my thing.
Real pleasure and huge honour to interview the great @billfletcherjr.bsky.social for the #LeftRenewal podcast series. Watch this space for the video coming soon!
