Graphic highlighting key priorities for a National Bus Stop Standard: accessibility, comfort, safety, and up-to-date information.

We travelled around England & Wales talking to bus passengers about bus stops. Seats, shelter & timetables make catching the bus easier, but not all bus stops have these.

Did you know you pay more fuel tax on a single car journey than a billionaire does on a private jet flight?

Right now the gov is subsidising tax breaks, when they could be using that tax to generate billions for public services.

Help us change this: https://bit.ly/43NAeFN

Quote from Silviya Barrett, Campaign for Better Transport: "The Bus Services Bill is good news for bus passengers and will allow local authorities to choose how best to deliver bus services in their areas, helping create a more reliable bus network for all. We are also glad to see that the Bill will help protect existing lifeline bus services, but to truly end the current ‘postcode lottery’ we need to ensure that no community is completely cut off from public transport. That’s why we are urging the Government to ensure all areas have at least a minimum, reasonable level of bus services and target funding towards places not currently served by buses to help them to plug the gaps in the network."

The Better Bus Services Bill is now law. Here's what our Head of Policy and Campaigns @silviyabarrett.bsky.social had to say on this hugely important step for the country's most used form of public transport.

But there remain gaps in service provision to be addressed. We discussed franchising and other models available, but many local authorities will need support through the process

There was consensus #buses are now much higher on the agenda and great examples of bus improvements and higher patronage thanks to a move towards longer-term funding

"If the government is really keen to see growth, recovery and prosperity at the local level, it's local transport that can be delivered quickly.

Local journeys need to be improved. That’s where people see the change most in their day to day lives." @silviyabarrett.bsky.social
