“It seems odd to do a national search for instructor rank when someone’s already there in that same position”
THEY LEGALLY HAVE TO DO A SEARCH

I am begging people in the academic job market to stop whining about “inside hires”
An institution hiring a VAP or temporary instructor for a permanent role happens all the time and it makes perfect sense that someone who is already teaching in the department would be a better fit than others.
These are straight out of an I Think You Should Leave sketch
Friends - enjoy a new score video of my new unaccompanied bass clarinet work "Time Traveler!"
Melania Trump today, for some reason:
It’s bad combo of working in the arts and in Florida. I also teach private lessons which I get paid $600-680 per student (depending on the school) for the whole semester.
If i taught lessons privately with market rates, I’d be getting paid more
I wish I was getting that much - I get about half that.
Drove 2 hours to campus for none of my students to show up to my 9am class. Hope your day is off to a better start!
One of the Discover commercials with Jennifer Coolidge clearly uses some form of AI/Deepfake and it looks bad and they should be shamed for it
Someone tell this person you have your academic music jobs wiki crashout in private like the rest of us
Very excited to share Beltline Bones' premiere performance of "Concrete Jungle!"
“Is there a technology the left is excited about?”
Yes. Granular synthesis
So it turns out in order to receive mentorship from this composer it’s $10k (thank you to a colleague for finding this out). So he really only had 9-10 students, and his biggest success story is someone who has a full time job outside of music (and the financial security that comes with it)
I should’ve expected the barbershop to be busy today but I have an appointment so if I better not have to wait an eternity
It’d look cooler if their billionaire owner actually paid for it instead of the taxpayers
None of my students have showed up today but I’ve done 2 job applications in the meantime
New musical hyperfixation dropped
YUP
Could’ve been the best commercial so far if it was any other company besides crypto or AI bullshit
Dr/Prof/Mr Ringey - I don’t care either way
Lindsey Vonn’s decision to compete a week after a torn ACL is not only incredibly stupid, but selfish as well. I’m sure if she dropped out someone else who had an intact ACL could’ve taken her place.
Who thought putting athlete’s spouse’s BPM on the graphics was a good idea?
Instead of posting the ChatGPT charicature trend, I’ll remind everyone that AI companies are technofascists that have modeled themselves after the Italian futurist movement which supported Mussolini. Please do better.
An incredibly important video. Well done, Adam
I respect this persons work quite a bit and have liked the advice they have given on their YouTube channel but if I was making over $100k a year from university teaching, commissions, and royalties I certainly wouldn’t be seeking out nearly another $100k from mentorship
A composer revealed that they made over $90k a year from their private composition studio/academy and I’d really like to see what the pricing is to get those numbers. I checked the website and there’s no pricing listed without showing interest
Shoutout to the woman who rear ended me, outright refused to believe that she hit me, but stayed long enough for me to get her tag number to give to the police
Hard to get an INT when you don’t get thrown on a lot
The Kalshi ad with AI imagery has to be the worst possible thing I could’ve seen today
The way one of my schools handles email is the epitome of an IT department doing too much. I have to log in via a virtual desktop which doesn’t load half of the time, and when it does load it’s laggy. And my students suffer because it makes communication significantly harder than it needs to be
