Trump's health policy:

-Slash grants for Alzheimer's research by 50%
-Increase production of cancer-linked weedkiller chemical
-Gut protections against forever chemicals
-Throw 7.5M Americans off Medicaid

How does ANY of this Make America Healthy Again?

Dr. Lara Jones, a pediatric critical care specialist, still remembers her visceral reaction to the image of Liam Ramos. It wasn’t the most famous one, of the 5yo boy in a blue bunny winter hat and superhero backpack. It was one from days later, of him slumped in his father’s arms in custody in Texas

Children trapped in Texas immigration facility recount nightmares, inedible food, no school A photo of Liam Conejo Ramos, a scared 5-year-old, drew attention to a detention center in Dilley, Texas. Advocates say his experience reflects what hundreds of children have endured out of public vie...

Maria is one of hundreds of children, who — like Liam Ramos — have been held at a Texas detention facility where parents say children languish as they’re served contaminated food, receive little education and struggle to obtain basic medical care.

This news is just so deeply sad. I was definitely one of the firmly Gen X working poor kids who absolutely benefited from PBS shows like Sesame Street and Electric Company making learning a goal, reading accessible, and curiosity cool.

This makes me so sad. So many kids toys have been recalled by the CPSC for lead and other deadly hazards. Take a look at who sells most of them.

Until recently, the US S&T enterprise & higher ed systems were the envy of the world. The way it's being gutted is beyond heartbreaking.
The US innovation engine is crumbling before our eyes.
This moment in history is not just sad—it is profoundly tragic & represents an incalculable loss. So unreal.

Nitrogen Availability and Changes in Precipitation Alter Microbially Mediated NO and N2O Emissions From a Pinyon–Juniper Dryland Climate change is altering precipitation regimes that control nitrogen (N) cycling in terrestrial ecosystems. In ecosystems exposed to frequent drought, N can accumulate in soils as they dry, stimula...

In new work by Sharon, we studied whether changes in #soil N in response to shifts in precipitation may favor tradeoffs between AOA and AOB nitrifiers and the emission of NO and #N2O 🧪 onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...

For anyone wanting to deep dive a bit more on science communication in emotional and contentious situations, I wrote a book that includes not only my views, but also the real world experiences of a hundred or so practitioners. I think it’s useful right now.

Opinion | Trump’s nonsense tweets on water and wildfires are dangerous There’s no shortage of water to fight fires. But there is a shortage in common sense to fight climate change.

I wrote this opinion piece 6 years ago. It could have been written today.

Alt Text: What to Write Images are decorative, functional, or informative. Skip alt text for decorative. Describe the action for functional. Convey the message for informative.

Did you know that you should end your alt text with a period?

"End alt text with a period, even if it isn’t a full sentence. The period ensures that the screen reader pauses after reading the alt text."

This was a new tip for me. Glad to learn something new!
