Trying to better manage my media diet.
No I do not want to see pictures of the flesh eating screw worm.
Yes I do want to see pictures of Taylor’s ring.

No syllabus ever survives first contact with the students.
Oop, the dealership is now playing Alanis Morisette. For the ladies.
Many of my students have been National Guard and they are smart, effective, motivated folks happy to be earning an education (often the first in their families to go to college). They are doing their best.
Remember that most of the people in the National Guard want nothing to do with this and are, in fact, probably pretty pissed off that their governor ripped them away from their normal lives to do security theater miles away from home.
Notes from a Subaru dealer: As Neil Young’s plays over the loudspeaker, folks in Birkenstocks and Keens watch non traditional families drive over mountain passes and dogs surf. These are my people now.
Chicago don’t play.
Honest question: Is it okay to shop at Costco during the economic blackout today? I’m happy to support the company and unhappy about having to go on a Saturday.
Passing on a note from a colleague: People with federal student loans should download their files IMMEDIATELY. These files are currently on the studentaid.gov website, which may get deleted if Trump follows through with his EO to shut down DOE

Three new manuscripts have come to me through the editorial system in the last 6 hours, which means six have be submitted to the journal (they are split between our two Eds in Chief). WTH, people. It’s 12/27. Why are you submitting papers today? Can’t it wait until the new year?
I have about 10,000 words of my book written. So far I have said very little and possibly all I know about blame and punishment.
My hot yoga instructor this morning was about 18 and I think this was her first class. She kept forgetting to do the left side in our series. I swear that I’m actually off balance now. If I fall off my chair whilst writing it’s on her.
Why Punishment Matters.
I’m discussing informal expressive punishment as a model for a possible formal system of punishment that is actually just.
I mean, I have 9,000 words already. And that only took me three months. I just need to buckle down.
Today’s observation: if I write 1,000 words five days a week I should be done with this book in about three and a half months. No problem.
👋. I’ve decided to start posting to bluesky as a distraction while writing my book.
Glad to see this paper by @annelijefferson.bsky.social @ksifferd.bsky.social and Jan-Hendrik Heinrichs is now out.

“They want to ban reproductive freedom nationwide. What other freedoms do they want to take away?” is a great line
Hilariously, the Republican heckling is making Biden look cognitively nimble.
Our little project is gearing up: if you know somebody who would be interested in a postdoc position on philosophy of psychology and psychiatry in Rijeka, Croatia, spread the news: euraxess.ec.europa.eu/jobs/193732 @ksifferd.bsky.social

New, from me: The popular idea of welfare fraud relies on "welfare queen" tropes. But in a lot of policy areas, the biggest fraudsters are sophisticated criminal gangs using information technology or organized scams.
SNAP is a good example.
