For us? No, they were students that had already accepted our offers of admission. For them? No idea.
100%
Troubling new trend* in biomedical PhD admissions: making PhD offers just before or even AFTER the April 15th deadline agreed upon by the Council of Graduate Schools.
*at least two students in this year's cohort
In case you missed the 2026 curve for e.g., F awards because it's completely flatlined, here's a big fat arrow showing where we are. Curves for T and K awards are just as bad.
Hey, national champion Elliot Cadeau, how do you think Gracie did on her prelim exam? Elliot: <Holds up two "ok" symbols as he runs down the court>
Big congrats to Jenkins lab PhD CANDIDATE Gracie on joining the ranks of other UNC-->Michigan success stories after passing her prelims with flying colors! Shoutout to @nanopharmnc.bsky.social for setting her up with such amazing undergrad training! Great job, Gracie!
Beat me to it 🤣
BagelBoy strikes again! Nice work, Feigin lab!!
Agreed. Katz is a weird mechanism. Kurt, happy to look at reviews, aims, etc. if that would be helpful. Hardly an expert, but sometimes outside eyes help.
I believe that is 1 CHONK
It's literally verbatim...

Map of approximate tornado path in Ann Arbor at ~1:45am on April 15, 2026
Description of 4/15 EF-1 tornado from National Weather Service
NWS confirmed that an EF-1 tornado touched down near Maple Village and lifted near 4th and William in Ann Arbor at 1:45am on 4/15/26. Thank goodness it lifted or it would have gone right through downtown/central campus!!

I've got my first clutch for the season in the nest box. 4 eggs!
We could hear ours super loud in Dexter, along with our phones, weather radio, and the Alexa. I think we probably take our sirens seriously after the 2013 tornado. Seems like AA will probably follow suit!
So horrible. Thoughts with President-elect Syverud and his family.
Thanks, Stephanie. As the sun came up, I think it's clear we definitely had tornado(s) touch down. Cars flipped, trees uprooted and thrown across the block, two ice arenas damaged. Crazy!! Good news is weather radio, phones, and sirens did their job and we were in the basement with 10 mins to spare.
I don't suppose this is good for fall hockey season...
I think so. Looks like there is still tile roof underneath, so I don't think it took the whole roof off. Aluminum roof all over the houses to the east
Had the old Midwest special last night, the mad dash to the basement at 2am for tornadoes. We were spared in Dexter but looks like Ann Arbor took some damage. Roof damaged at Yost ice arena
Amazing 🤣
Holy moly!
Now that my standard funding curves are updated weekly automatically on grant-witness.us (grant-witness.us/funding_curv...), I have been working on some other important items to track.
One is the amount of funding committed to multi-year grants.
1/6
Imagine holding your own party to such a low standard that "the other guys are also rapists/abusers, so it's fine" is a reasonable stance.
Yup! Joke's on them. I didn't want to go there either.
I got one from a place where I had withdrawn my application since I had already accepted my position at Michigan.
Man, these far-right universities really do have a leg upon "mainstream" universities. I don't think a single Michigan alum has a job as an "Assistant Press Secratary"
