a likely result for new students is that you won’t even have to be interested in your research, and could easily research anything else, which ofc means you’re vastly more replaceable

one of the appeals of academia (that’s gradually decreased) was the leeway and ability to explore, with even higher productivity expectations and AI in the loop, why not go into industry since it’ll be virtually indistinguishable
