Ohio voters have been VERY CLEAR that they want to end gerrymandering. GOP lawmakers have repeatedly ignored us.
My hometown of Nashville -- a blue city which went about two-thirds for Harris-Walz in 2024 -- was gerrymandered by the TN GOP into three different districts all represented by Republicans now, so please get in line to complain about how unfair this all is, Virginia Republicans

I am convinced the Virginia freakout by the right is animated by two things: (1) the GOP has been officially hoist by their own petard (2) they still feel entitled to politically dominate Virginia like they do Georgia.
The GOP knows that what it (or more accurately its donors) want is unpopular. They've been engaged in a decades long project to insulate the party from the costs of enacting unpopular policies. There isn't presently a Plan B for what if the chicanery stops working.
See, I think it's grappling with the action/reaction dynamic in politics because it suggests: (1) there are real limitations as far as what chicanery will accomplish; (2) the costs of the reaction might outweigh the benefit of the chicanery.
