It’s Time To Grow Up | Defector HBO’s new Harry Potter TV series is premiering this Christmas Day. Under current plans, it will last at least a decade. The trailer looks like the original films were run through an AI generator, but ...

“It is beneath my dignity to let myself be run over by any trolley, and particularly this trolley, burdened as it is by a cape and a stupid hat.”

I wrote for Defector about boycotting Harry Potter, the ‘safe’, kindly face of anti-trans politics:

The press and "other social media" reaction to #GeniusGame is I think more proof of why the UK can't have good television anymore.

Honestly fantastic that it's even come close to replicating the original.

May be worth having a shop around tech stores, IRC usually costs another 25% of the cost for three years.

Oooh, I can actually imagine some of the Niantic devs making some really awesome tools with this. Their existing projects already gives them some strong grasp of GIS data.

"media literacy" is supposed to mean, like, being able to spot authorial bias and propaganda in the news! it's not just a buzzword you whip out to call someone stupid when they have a different opinion on a movie

A comic of two foxes, one of whom is blue, the other is green. In this one, Blue and Green are playing chess, both studying the board between them.
Blue, in thought: If he mvoes that pawn to attack my left, it would leave his right flank eposed, but if-

Blue's thought is interrupted as Green leans in to move one of the pawns. Blue watches the move in surprise.
Green, also thinking: Can I move this piece over here?

Green looks at Blue, who looks at the board between them in astonishment.
Blue: Wow. That was not a move I'd have seen coming. Now I have no idea what your plan is.

Blue looks up to Green, and both calmly look each other in the eye.
Green: Bold of you to assume I have a plan.

STOP hoping you won't get reported. label your SHIT. it is NOT about limiting creative ability. IT IS about protecting the most vulnerable.

IT IS about protecting the jobs of others. IT IS about being taken seriously and with respect. IT IS about not landing on blocklist for avoiding labels repeatedly.

not everyone lives alone (especially in this housing market). SEX and other stuff has its place and time.

no one needs their mother, children or boss to see your character plowing their sister.
on a platform about user freedom and choice don't strip those rights from your audience.

we will come when the time is right for us.

this has been a PSA. thank you!

A political poster by Avram Finkelstein, Brian Howard, Oliver Johnston, Charles Kreloff, Chris Lione, and Jorge Socárras.

The background is black. There is an inverted pink triangle, referencing persecution of Homosexual people in Nazi Germany.

The text in large white print says “SILENCE=DEATH”.

Civilisation VII: Seeing loads of people saying the UI looks "Unfinished". What, because it doesn't have loads of pretty colours, visual flourishes and packing important info into tiny text? 7's UI is wonderfully easy to read and understand what's going on. Can anti-access stop being a trend?

Shamelessly stealing this after hearing it from a friend, but calling yourself an LGBTQ+ ally is the easy part.

It's called *being* an ally, and it is an active process. Please do your part to support the LGBTQ+ community. No matter what that support looks like, this is the time to stick together.

Quote tweet by Richard Hanania from 1/11/2025. The quoted tweet, which has a community note, is by Christopher F. Rufo on 1/10/2025.

Christopher's tweet reads: "I'm sorry, but we have to stop with the ridiculous sign language interpreters, who turn serious press conferences into a farce. There are closed captions on all broadcast channels and streaming services. No wild human gesticulators necessary."

The community note (which has supporting .gov links) reads: "Fact: Not all broadcast channels have closed captions, which isn't universally effective anyway; many Deaf rely on ASL for comprehension as ASL offers nuances captions miss. This is part of ADA requirements, passed by GOP."

Richard's tweet reads: "The community note shows that the process has been captured by the disability lobby. It’s not about access, CC works fine. They have to pretend like it doesn’t to force this absurdity onto us. And the ADA amendments of 2008 have led to a nightmare, as I explain in my book."

🔊 PSA for nondisabled people 🔊

It's time to step the FUCK up if you wanna be an ally.

ASL interpretation is being targeted by right wing cry baby douchebags.

Shut this shit down when you see it. SPEAK UP. This barrage of ASL hate is heavier than usual.

Also be careful about saying "AI Generated Art" as well. There's tons of algorithms out there for creating images, music and other forms of art without mimicking input data - some of which churn out really cool and interesting results.

This is why I think it's important to say 'generative AI' or 'genAI' etc when complaining about fully automated luxury plagiarism machines. A lot of AI and machine learning is good! It benefits genAI companies and enthusiasts if, when you say 'AI sucks', they can pretend you mean this stuff too.

Anyone who agrees with the whole "LGB drop the T" thing, take notice of how they just lump in "transgenderism" and "homosexuality" as both equally okay to discriminate against.

Either we all make it or none of us will, so we shouldn't fight amongst each other.

BlueSky is trying to monetize so let's show them some numbers:

Reskeet this if you refuse to pay for BlueSky+ until trust & safety decides to prioritize marginalized users.

That's $96 / year of lost revenue for each reskeet...

As Green points out though, in any other event it would be considered totally normal that press don’t get any access until the preview event - which is to an extent what the jury rehearsal is. Besides there’s no strict comment about access to the Morning Dress Rehearsal yet.
