I'm just not a fan of life sim type of games in general, especially ones where the fun is driven so much by the player's creativity. It's more of a vehicle for creating comedic moments for your collection of silly little guys rather than a game with any concrete objective.

Tomodachi Life is not a game I would enjoy playing, but I am very much enjoying watching other people play it.

Just watched episode 2 of OtaGal, and there's no comparison. OtaGal's protagonist is just such a fucking loser, and neither girl feels like a real person. Second Prettiest Girl doesn't treat women as if they're a different species, and doesn't treat nerdy hobbies as inherently embarrassing.

As someone who is decidedly not trans but does mistakenly get called ma'am more often than one would think doing over the phone tech support, you might be onto something.

SPG's protagonist is a loner, sure, but he's not a typical nerdy loser like Otaku's protagonist is. Popular girl has a reason to be attracted to him beyond just their hobby, and their relationship feels believable. Maybe Otaku will get there eventually, but the first episode didn't give much hope.

Even crazier how much better Second Prettiest Girl is. Second Prettiest Girl hits some of the same notes as the good parts of Tomozaki without the "you have to live life like a popular kid for your life to be fulfilling" stink of it, while Otaku is aiming just for wish fulfillment fantasy.
