Little something I was playing with designing for the C64. A PETSCII game that is sort of like Pipe Dream meets Tetris.
Only to find the Japanese did it in 1991, with Gorby no Pipeline Daisakusen.

I love old-school, TSR-era ad&d art and I gotta say, for cover art I think Jeff Easly is by far my favourite artist. I always found his use of light and color superb combined with motifs that go HARD❤
Do you have a fave fantasy artist? I want pics below!🗡🛡🏹

I don't recall any previous transformative technologies that had to be sold to the public so hard. No one in 1999 was going, "Guys. Cell phone? It's coming, whether we like it or not. I think it's important, FOR WOMEN ESPECIALLY, to learn about cell phone. So that we're not left behind!!"
mark overmars wrote a dissertation touching on this topic circa around 2007

developers are not forced to include diversity in their games. trust me: if they were, we’d see so much more of it.
the truth is that a lot of us are just gay and not white, and everyone else who cares about the medium as an art form is tired of telling the same stories.
The amazing chiptune.app player can be found on GitHub. For me, probably the best JS code ever created! Thank you, @mattmontag.bsky.social

mild take:
we're watching silicon valley get very excited about their tools in the same way a guy with a huge wall of ryobi stuff thinks his collection is more important than what he does with the tools
ai feature implementation strategy is essentially “how annoying can we make the ui” so people accidently hit ai features so these companies can brag about how “highly used” ai features are internally
This is back open; if you're part of a (massive) layoff in the game industry you can request a product of mine for free. It's not much, but it might help you in your journey ahead. 🫂

I've only had to deal with a few people like this in my career and I have enormous sympathy for everyone who has to deal with them regularly.
It's fine to not have the talent or experience to do the work but if you literally cannot imagine a finished asset in place of a temp asset, please exit.
machine translation is acceptable for "help me sort of make sense of this news article" or "plz help the instruction manual isn't in my language" or "only an obscure blog in japan ever covered this vintage lens…"
not for anything that is meant to endure
The immensely talented artist Philip Castle died recently. He created the posters for A Clockwork Orange and Full Metal Jacket as well as album artwork for the many great bands. Retro gamers will know him for his work on the original Elite box artwork. RIP.
All Might from My Hero Academia saying "always go for this" in the top pane while an image of Yoshi from a game shows his original pixel style. The second pane says "never ever go for this. Only villains do that" and it's Yoshi with a bad filter on
history repeats itself
Today's work on my game consisted of fleshing out the MacGuffin home, so it looks more like people live there.
I'm allowing replies and quote posts. Be nice, this is the first video game I've ever written.

DOOM fully rendered in CSS. Every surface is a <div> that has a background image, with a clipping path with 3D transforms applied. Of course CSS does not have a movable camera, so we rotate and translate the scene around the user.
The Lemmings walking sprite animation is likely the best sprite animation of the 8 to 16 bit transition era
Sometimes they might just not be the kind of player you are looking for specifically because they are already looking for a number of things that might even work but just aren't what you are aiming for.
hearing AI company CEOs excitedly telling you how "we can now all finally become managers" without blinking makes me want to pack my bags and move to the moon
i built an entire x86 CPU emulator in CSS (no javascript)
you can write programs in C, compile them to x86 machine code with GCC, and run them inside CSS

A version of the 2001 HAL "pod bay doors" scene but HAL is just a basic LLM and all the astronauts are just supercredulous tech bros convinced he's alive and scheming against them
The AI bubble RAM crisis is caused for non-existent problems by non-existent money for a non-existent infrastructure to meet non-existent demand to make non-existent business and will utterly destroy real business based on real demand and real infrastructure built with real money for real problems.
I'm older than you so I can confirm that they came with a little book that had the tutorial in it and you read it on the way home
the impossible number of games that release on Steam every day has been discourse for years
why would anybody want to play a game nobody could be bothered to make
4 years old on a TI-99/4A, not sure if the very first game was Indoor Soccer or TI Invaders because they came together (there were also Parsec and Alpiner, which were great too for the time, and a few tape oddities).
Lines of academy cadets, one in command red seated but at attention while in a wheelchair.
I have a friend who said, of Starfleet Academy, that this took them out of it - that seeing a person in a wheelchair in the 32nd century seemed unrealistic, since medicine in Star Trek "should be able to cure whatever was wrong with them."
That's not the case, for any number of possible reasons.
Wait wait wait... I think I finally figured out who they are. Who the customer is for this AI: the IDEA GUY.
You know, that dude who breezes into your mentions who thinks their idea is special. That it's the most important thing. To them, the prompt IS the game!
How did I not see this sooner?
The No ICE in Minnesota bundle has launched, raising funds for the Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota. Over 1400 items for $10.00!

This is the problem with the modern internet being like 5 fucking websites that everyone uses. There used to be so many more alternatives.
Star Trek literally addressed this nearly 40 years ago with this scene. In quote Riker himself, it's "incredibly outmoded and sexist attitude" to think Klingons can't wear skirts.
