One last note: for all you “Geese are sO MeAn” people out there just know that this girl was poked, prodded, in extreme pain and shock and just quietly let us work on her without any issue.

UPDATE: Lily the goose was checked out by our vet and though her wounds were deep they missed the organs and airsac. She’ll be on some antibiotics and pain meds for a few weeks and has a little quarantined space in the coop.

Don’t even ask what would happen to a domestic dog who shows up- they kill and maim livestock just for shits and giggles and are even worse than coyotes for farmers.

I know it’s difficult for non-farm folks to understand this but having a farm is a balanced ecosystem. That sometimes means thinning predation as well. We work with the ODFW biologist to keep balance. We don’t let them suffer (leg snares) and we don’t wound them, which is illegal.

Once they get aggressive enough to come into human spaces they have to unfortunately. They will go after pets and young children when they become this aggressive. That said, we let them live as long as they respect this boundary which is why we have predator friendly deterrents like livestock dogs.

And if you’re over 40 you realize literally all of life’s “rules” are just completely made up BS like why are we all doing this shit to ourselves

After several years of no incidents, we had an unfortunate coyote attack tonight. He tried to grab our girl Lily and run off. She has some puncture wounds which we cleaned up and she is resting. Coyote’s days are numbered. 🔫🔫🔫
