This is a little too familiar...

Noor-un-Nisa Inayat Khan (1914 – 1944) was a British agent in France in the Second World War who served in the Special Operations Executive. She became the first female wireless operator to be sent from the UK into occupied France to aid the French Resistance during WW2. #CelebratingWomen
Three cool scientists introduce their work "Our new theory has been submitted to a peer-reviewed journal, but we feel its depths and intricacies are best appreciated on the limited-edition vinyl release."

I've got a review up at @nerdsofafeather.bsky.social today of The Language of Liars by S. L. Huang. It's a thoughtful, substantial novella tackling language, politics, culture and power, and one that absolutely kicked me in the face by the end (in the best possible way).
It's alive!!
It's like they did focus group research to find out what's putting people off their releases, then said "let's have more of that".
That's one of the things that I'd find fascinating to play with - do you keep it Vietnam-coded, which now feels retro, try to flavour it with 21st century wars instead, or maybe even contrast the two? Is it even possible to write something now that feels like SAAB did then while being SAAB?
I've been hearing very good things about that, & it looks like an interesting one to read close to Project Hanuman & some Banks. Feels like there's something in the air space opera-wise (or rather in the vacuum).
Today's writing is mostly my poor space cleaners, who've just had the shit kicked out of them by a super soldier & are suffering from an infection of sentient mould. I love these guys, but you'd never know it from the way I treat them.
Space Above and Beyond.
That show had some great ideas, an interesting aesthetic, & space to disect the trope it was built on. Play around in the gung-ho sandbox even as I knock its sides out to see what lies underneath.
It was amazing to hear a room full of clubbers go nuts for a politician. Loads of young people & genuine excitement for politics as well as music. Polanski was excellent, kept the speech clear, energising, & short so everybody could get back to the dancing. It left me feeling really hopeful.
First time I've been to a club night that made the national news.
Also the first time I've been out clubbing and still got home by 10pm, because I'm no longer one of The Kids.

I do sometimes draw inspiration from clients who wouldn't like what they've inspired.

Today's writing is dead neighbourhoods & the mad scramble for work, just another Monday under the hollow gaze of capital.
I really needed to read this piece this morning.
Often as a writer, coming up against the frustrations of publishing,I find myself slipping back into being an ungenerous reader, primed to hate every flaw.
It's not healthy
The cover of Wiz Duo book 3 with stories by Ruthanna Emrys and Andrew Knighton. The images are an old, wooden house seen against a mountainous background for Ruthanna's story; and a hiker walking towards the sunset in Andrew's.
Love novellas? In Wiz Duo #3, Ruthanna Emrys saves a young girl from an angry mountain, and Andrew Knighton investigates the death of an old friend. wizardstowerpress.co...
Just FYI, there is a tiny indie bookshop in Afflecks Palace in MCR that ONLY sells fantasy (and a tiny bit of horror). Not even SF. Bugbear Books - check them out if you're in the area. I was very well behaved because I was already broke but I got a copy of The Fox Wife which looks great.
Pls share?

Hadn’t been clothes shopping for a dog’s age, so bit the bullet.

Never gonna give you up
Never gonna let you down
Never gonna run around
And desert you
Never gonna make you cry
Never gonna say goodbye
Never gonna tell a lie
And hurt you

You will recall I mentioned an interview with The Tiny Bookcase? @tinybookcase.bsky.social
Nico, Ben and I had a wide-ranging and enjoyable chat. For instance, did you know rumour, early in my writing career, claimed I didn't actually exist? Tune in to find out more... 😁

Always a pleasure to work with our Luna authors on their new projects, so it is with great joy that we welcome once again Dilman Dila and his new Solarpunk novel, Dreams of a Yellow Balloon, scheduled for release in 2028. 💙@booksfromscotland.bsky.social @africansfs.bsky.social

Today's writing is about stolen art, & it's the sort of fascinating freelance work that has me wanting to go write a story. Unfortunately, I don't have time to write that story because I'm doing the freelance work.
Renewables generated over a third of US electricity in March 2026 for the first time, surpassing gas as wind and solar reached a record 26% combined share. The milestone reflects rapid structural growth, especially in solar. Ember buff.ly/XdDNJ1F

On the one hand, dear god do we really need to revive another old thing?
On the other hand, this does look fun, & a story about an old source of entertainment getting revived could maybe say something worthwhile.
Vibe coding or, as we used to call it, appeasing the machine spirits in the name of the Omnissiah.
In fairness, that's also how I feel about Lib Dem MPs.
And I bet they have a dinosaur costume somewhere in their campaign events cupboard.
