(3) Tomorrow the fates have chosen my 173rd favourite animated film. A completely delightful children’s film that is underseen, from a few years ago

(2) … the Iranian revolution and them moving to France and how her history shapes her. I have seen criticism that she is a flawed protagonist (she does commit one truly deplorable act), but picking at her own scars makes this character very human and real. A must see in my opinion.
Recommending a full year of my favourite animated films at random, day 16 of 365. Today is my 30th favourite animated film. The powerful and timely autobiographical film “Persepolis”. Based on the equally excellent comic, it tells the story of a young girl who comes of age during…

Yokohama Shopping mall is a true delight. An OVA from the late 1990s that follows a robot wandering post apocalypse. It’s completely gentle vibes. Highly recommended. youtu.be/cUGFCGzX9SA
(3) tomorrow the fates have chosen my 30th favourite animated film. Another French production, and a film sadly relevant today.
(2) Based on an unprotected script by Jacques Tati, this movies has his subtle humour. Most importantly the animation is sublime. It is a slow film, and you are meant to luxuriate within. A love letter Tati wrote for his daughter and Chomet turned into art.
Recommending a full year of my favourite animated films at random, day 15 of 365. Today is my 216th favourite animated film. Sylvian Chomet‘s The Illusionist is a gentle, detailed gem of a film. youtu.be/PhiADzGdB1Y
I didn’t know there was a dub, but I just discovered this movie not that long ago.
Looks incredible.
I took a second to check and it looks like the blu ray put out also has no dub.
I only saw it on Tubi. I didn‘t see a dub.
(4) Tomorrow the fates have chosen by 216th favourite animated film. A French master makes a quiet elegant film.
(3) Some weirdly dark off screen violence and sexual content. Not for everyone, but if you like the peculiar you will like this.
(2) Sometimes it’s a dark comedy. Sometimes gangster film. Sometimes a Spy caper. The cats have the power and the mice and rats are the underclass. It’s very dryly told with Saturday morning level animation. .
Recommending a full year of my favourite animated films at random, day 14 of 365. Today is my 348th favourite animated film. If you are looking for something unique then Cat City is for you (on Tubi)...
I’m just going to put out in the universe that if they ever decide to go back to the Men in Black well, they should approach Joe Bennett and give him Carte Blanche.
(4) The fates are keeping me near the bottom of my list tomorrow. A truly odd independent animation.
(3) but I certainly get how it bounces off the other people. I also find the editing jarring. The main issue is how much he needs to condense the story, and of course we never get the planned part two so it ends on a frustrating cliffhanger.
(2) but much higher than Bakshi was used to. Bakshi takes his more experimental techniques to the movie, not just rotoscoping but mixing live action with in camera special effects. Visually you can see influences on the Jackson films. I enjoy the weird uncanny vally of it all…
Recommending a full year of my favourite animated films at random, day 13 of 365. Today is my 358th favourite animated film “Lord of the Rings”. Ralph Bakshi’s attempt to break into the mainstream. A reported 8 million budget was low for an animated film even back then,…
An appreciation of the art of Mary Blair.
(4) Tomorrow the fates have chosen my 358th favourite animated movie. A controversial movie and maker that I will try to argue is worth seeing despite its flaws.
(3)… It seems weird to place it so low, but that’s why I am saying “favourite “ and not best.
… I watch individual scenes and look at the concept art often. On a technical level this is an incredible movie and worth watching for that alone. I also find I cannot connect to the movie on any emotional level (except perhaps for Maleficent)...
Recommending a full year of my favourite animated films at random, day 12 of 365. Today is my 258th favourite animated film “Sleeping Beauty”. Attached is some of the iconic and stunning concept art by Eyvind Earle. Based on medieval tapestries, this movie looks incredible…
(4) Tomorrow the fates are sending be back to the Disney well, with my 258th favourite animated film. Many people would have this much higher, but I find it a stunning movie, but also a product of its time
(3) The result is the zippiest most bare bones Disney film packed with jokes they ever made? It feels more looney tunes in a way and they break many Disney “rules” (breaking the 4th wall, a sarcastic humour). Lus, it has Eartha Kitt (you do have to wonder what Kitt musical number was cut. Shame).
(2) The movie was originally going to be a musical epic with Sting songs, but after a few box office disappointments Disney got cold feet and made the animators and writers start again. This movie was the metaphor of building the airplanes on the way down, with production ripping the wings off.
Recommending a full year of my favourite animated films at random, day 11 of 365. Today is my 178th favourite animated film “The Emporer‘s New Groove”. I am linking to the banned making of Documentary “The Sweatbox“ to show the enormous stress the animators were under. youtu.be/rSoBkTIg2OM
