The first couple episodes are a bit more Family Guy in Space, but Seth McFarlane had to do that to trick Fox into letting him make a serious Trek style show. Midway thru season 1 it basically turns into TNG with some dick and fart jokes thrown in. Very very good especially on sex / gender stuff.
