Vaccines against COVID-19 saved over 20 million lives in the first year alone, according to a study in Lancet Infectious Diseases. Anti vaxxers conveniently ignore such stats.

Nearly every kid we saw in the ICU with COVID, once the vaccine was available, were kids who hadn’t gotten vaccinated. The vaccine was the difference between life and death, or at best a normal life and a devastated one.

Slide with data from a study of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine titled “epidemiology and vaccination programs”

Beautiful safety and efficacy data is just a start. Vaccinations, not simply vaccines, save lies. Successful vaccination programs depend on public trust. Transparent processes of research, regulation, monitoring and ongoing communication are critical. We must continually ask how we can improve these processes

Today’s class session in my introductory public health class is going to be entirely devoted to an overview of how vaccines work and how they are researched and regulated. I believe it is my responsibility as a public health professor to share this information and be available to discuss questions.

Good Public Health Is Invisible It’s only when things go wrong that you notice it. It looks like people will really notice public health in the United States quite soon.

Good public health is invisible. People tend not to notice the absence of disease.

Until people like RFK Jr start bringing it back.

How RFK Jr. Falsely Denied His Connection to a Deadly Measles Outbreak in Samoa He also championed a Samoan anti-vaxxer tied to the 2019 lethal eruption that killed scores of children.

The full low-down on RFK Jr.’s connection to a deadly measles outbreak in Samoa and, just as important, how he lied about it. That’s key. Kennedy is an inveterate liar. He makes up facts & plots, and he lies about what he himself has said. Another con man.

Bluesky is the new destination for X/Twitter’s health and science community. Here's why #MedTwitter is migrating en masse from X to Bluesky, suddenly making it an essential hub for scientific discourse. Here's why.

Scientists found community on Twitter and stayed because they feared the platform would be full of misinformation if they left.

But Bluesky is now the center of online #medsky and science conversation. @katiepalmer.bsky.social has more on scientists' hopes, dreams, and fears for social media:
