There are families who will never be able to come back from this devastation, and many of them were in generational homes, passed down from people who bought homes in the 1970sand 80's in Altadena. All of the fires are a tragedy, but especially for those who don't have the resources to rebuild.

1. Make detailed contemporaneous notes about every conversation you have with your insurance company.

Look, it’s a hard time… for so many reasons. Check on your people. (Shut up. I’m turning off replies. Just check on your people. Ask questions.) People are scared, overwhelmed and imperiled. Check on the people you love and know.

Reading about the shortage of firefighters in LA and already seeing help from as far as Canada makes me think about the countless times fire crews have come here from all over the world to support us. (& we have sent ours in return!) As climate emergencies increase...it's harder to spare personnel.

Short list of disaster "go bag" essentials: food & water, kn94 or kn95 masks, map with at least two evac routes, medications, clothes for a few days, eye glasses & contact lenses, extra set of car keys, first aid kit, flashlight, battery powered radio, copies of important docs, pet food if applicable
