It's time consuming when you're first learning it! But you're doing a wonderful job. Try not to over-render a specific part right away, spotting mistakes and making the process smooth is easier if you're rendering most/all of the painting at the same time. Can't wait to see more!

When I started using single layers for process I just kept backups of lines and flats or different stages just in case painting didn't work out. The most convenient thing about single layers is that it's much easier to make corrections, it's good practice if you just want something quick/messy
