"There is no need to ban novels deemed inappropriate if a state passes science of reading laws that mandate programs which replace novels completely."

There is no Charter School “million-student waitlist.”
There are empty classrooms, declining enrollment, and schools closing mid-year. #CharterMythBusted

When education is run like business, schools need to waste time, focus, and money on marketing. (And parents and children can’t rely on schools remaining open even through an entire school year.)

But what's to stop "Islamic schools" from using Trump's new federal school voucher program, which Texas adopted, as a workaround to get funding? asiatimes.com/2026/03/chin...
Screenshot of sophiafornc from Threads: This is eleven year-old Genesis and six year-old Denis, two Durham elementary school students whose families came here to seek asylum. On Monday, they were detained by ICE and immediately sent back to Honduras without due process. Don't you dare tell me that this is making our country safer.
I am so angry. Two Durham, NC kids - 11-year-old Genesis and 6-year-old Denis of Burton Elementary Magnet School - were taken by ICE at their regular asylum case appointment, and immediately deported without due process.

Without a positive agenda for schools, Dem messaging on health care and affordability is two steps forward one step back on family policy.
There are many one-off proposals, but no unifying vision to offer parents.
Trump and vouchers are damaging public schools. But a plan to go back isn’t a plan.
@colorado.gov Polis' effort to look centrist might backfire when MAGA voters find out the federal voucher program he supports could funnel tax dollars to the Chinese Communist Party. #COpol
Democrats need to run hard against this until November 2028 - and then deliver
ICYMI:Despite right-wing fears about Chinese communist influence in American schools, red state officials are opting into Trump's new school voucher scheme that will produce huge financial payouts to education companies linked to Chinese investors.

School choice advocates calling the Trump administration's new federal school voucher program “free money” may be underestimating its political costs. Read my newest to find out why: www.counterpunch.org/2026/03/27/h...
I don't know. This reads like typical "heroic educator" narrative. After reading, how much do we really know about what's going on in the school and whether the "improvement" is the result of specific policy, staffing, demographic, funding changes?
A well-rounded education program or publicly subsidized job training for Google? "The school’s academic description includes similar or identical language as found on the Google Skills website."
It's been a long time since the Democratic Party gave its full-throated support for public schools, but a coalition of Dems in Congress could reverse the party's abandonment of the People's Schools. @palan57.bsky.social has the story for @theprogressivemag.bsky.social

This: "Legislators asked, did charter leaders really need to visit London and Stockholm with their families to speak with international school leaders? ... And should a principal at Gray Collegiate Academy really make more money than most of the state’s superintendents?"
"The community school approach transitions traditional schools from being strictly academic institutions into community hubs that provide student and family support services based on resources and voices of the surrounding community. The strategy is showing promise in improving student outcomes"
My newest on the harm the Trump administration is inflicting on public schools: “Every day, there’s yet another abuse.” The wanton attack on public schools is one of America’s biggest tragedies, and too few in the media are paying attention.

Next up: rural schools. Robots instead of teachers is not what Trump voters wanted but it may be what they're going to get.
And that's just the immediate cost to taxpayers. What about the longterm costs to society of having discriminatory practices in schools that rob students of their futures.
A "strategic" move would be to issue a firm position that Democrats in Congress and the American people won’t stand for any of this and that Republicans must offer plausible solutions to prevent masked secret police from rampaging in American cities or we'll shut it down. Why can't you do that?
ICE/CBP is following school busses now.
My husband (a school bus driver) was just in an urgent all-hands meeting about it this afternoon.
Hurting vulnerable children: Trump administration plans to move a program that funds K-12 education for children living in poverty, multilingual learners, migrant students, and students w/ disabilities to an agency built for workforce policy, not education.

❌ >70% TX counties currently have NO elementary, junior, or senior high schools accepting vouchers.
❌ ~1/3 schools charge tuition > the voucher amount for most participants. Few provide special ed.
❌ 100+ schools prioritize admitting students of the same faith.

Taxpayer-funded discrimination, peak 2026: "around 40 percent of the religious schools have policies that favor students of their own faith and around 25 percent have policies that discriminate against LGBTQ+ students."
