In der momentanen öffentlichen Diskussion herrscht bei manchen das Bild vor, dass In-formatik die Bedienung von Of-fice-Software oder die Benutzung von KI betrifft. All das mag nützlich sein, hat mit dem Kern der Informatik aber so wenig zu tun wie Maschinen-schreiben mit Literatur. Wer für Latein argumentiert, tut das mit guten bildungs-theoretischen Gründen: Es schult Struktur, Präzision und das Verständnis formaler Systeme. Genau solche Gründe sprechen auch für Informatik. Eine sinnvolle Position in der aktuellen Debatte ist jedoch nur möglich, wenn klar ist, was Informatikunterricht tatsächlich leistet - und was nicht. Informatik ist älter als der Computer selbst.
