They also like to harass and threaten and nag people into just giving in, so as soon as your get a good lawyer it could be a good idea to tell the company all further communications have to be through your attorney. Ask your attorney for details on that process first though obvs.
Skeevy companies like this will often use your politeness and attempts to be professional against you- saying stuff like 'oh well you continued your relationship with us so you agreed to our terms'- and they don't deserve politeness anymore. Don't cuss them out, but don't give them an inch either.
Definitely talk to a proper UK lawyer first off, but it's probably better to just not give them anything at all. And if your contract is worded like the others authors have posted on here, you don't have to ask for your publishing rights back, just tell them it's terminated under clause whatever.
