History shows that when we change our perspective, we change our hearts and our policy. It's time to see the big picture again.

Although I fundamentally disagree with its monotropic adherence to the ideology of growth and accompanying easy dismissal of degrowth - the latter being an imperative (if properly understood) for the future viability of the ecosystems and climate that support us.

Absolutely agree that a vision of a better future can be a powerful motivating force and lodestone - and is needed. Nice article.

NEW: The Pope is doubling down.

In Cameroon today:

“Woe to those who manipulate religion and the very name of God for their own military, economic, or political gain, dragging that which is sacred into darkness and filth.”

I didn’t save it - it popped up in the results of a search for news on that announcement. I’ll see if I can recreate it - will let you know!

‘Long-term ingredient supply’ seems to be part of it. So guessing farmers will be locked in to what will likely be a highly restrictive (and ultimately punitive) supply contract.

Not much revealed in the article. The idea seems good - but I’m naturally suspicious, given who it is. Better ESG ratings don’t seem like a big enough return. Maybe a stake in the land or future crops… it would be interesting to investigate!

It’s up to us to decide at what temperature we wish to live & what sacrifices we’re willing to make to achieve this. It’s a question to be addressed democratically, not to be left up to politicians, scientists, economists, or AI.

I hope the empire falls. I hope the apartheid state of Israel is dismantled. I hope humanity is able to pry the steering wheel from the fingers of the ghouls who currently rule our world, so that we can create a healthy planet and a harmonious future together.

As ecological and economic crises reveal the contradictions of our productive model, the idea of degrowth has gained both advocates and critics.

Should degrowth be our priority? Can we downscale the economy and avoid the threat of recessionary crisis?

The US government has been using taxpayer money to fund and prop up these tech companies (Musk. Thiel, etc...) through subsidies, grants and government contracts. Treasonous lawmakers have basically been funding the destruction of American democracy while enriching themselves.

Yes, human use is not the only use - and all uses are interdependent.

Wealth inequality is worse than pre-revolutionary France. The government is committing genocide abroad while building literal concentration camps at home. They are rounding up immigrants and trafficking them to work camps. Nazi America is here.

We should have done it well before now and introduced sanctions, stopped sending weapons and refused to allow US bombers to use UK air bases.

I’ve definitely come across permaculture teachers and practitioners who embrace and promote the radical liberatory discourse described here. But wouldn’t deny that much more is needed. It’s a great article.
