Iron Galaxy has revealed another round of mass layoffs as it tries to "evolve" for the game industry's new normal.
One source told Kotaku as many as 90 employees could be affected.

When did we become so okay with web pages constantly moving UI elements around as things load in? Ads are the worst culprit of this, but every time I miss-click a button because the UI loads new elements in, I want to throw my computer out the window.

I don't think people understand how hard it is to work in the video-game industry right now. If you've been laid off, it can take months if not years to find new work. If you haven't been laid off, you're anxious that you will be laid off.

Been playing TMNT: Splintered Fate, and while I like it quite a bit, find it a disappointing how one-to-one they copied a lot of structural designs from Hades.
Don't get me wrong, it's a formula that works really well, but it feels a bit hollow when you realize they're just doing the same thing.
So, in my mtg binder I max out each sleeve at 4 cards, but got sick of trying to remember which had been maxed out already. So, now they get a little star when I have all 4 ⭐️
Some side-by-side comparisons of screenshots with and without DLSS 5 from Starfield and a game in a medieval setting. The DLSS versions change lighting a lot: there are new highlights where there were none. There are details where before there was shadow. There are clear silhouetes where there were indistinct ones.
Back when I was a mission designer, if I needed to draw player attention to an objective I would ask the lighting artists. Lighting is the biggest tool for controlling attention.
This isn't just a visual downgrade; in a VERY real way it fucks up basic playability of games.
They left this in the video, just imagine what they're leaving out lmao
My point is, not everyone gets that chance. Many game devs are stuck in abusive studios and never really get lucky enough to heal from it, unless they leave the industry.
When I was younger in game development, I never quite understood why some more senior folks seemed so defeated. I think I get it now - working at a healthy studio has me really confronting some of my past work traumas in ways I didn't quite expect, but are ultimately good for me.

I genuinely had hoped we were past this style of design.
It's such a wild hodgepodge of half baked game systems. Like, if the game was just the RE style exploration, I'd happy buy a premium version of the game, but it instead devolves into a shitty town builder / military game without any real reason to.
