Opinion | Don’t Use A.I. to Do This

This interesting piece on AI made me think of Swift. Perhaps the sentiment is this generation's version of "A Modest Proposal."

Thank you to the creators of the world, the people who feel deeply, the thinkers who move the conversation, and those who hold space. Thank you to those who trust others with the words that matter to you.

This is for you. 💖☀️ (2/2)

A poem titled “This is for the ones” by Alicia Chantal is printed on a gradient background that looks like a sunrise. The poem reads:

This is for the ones who overthought everything
And couldn’t get their hair to match perfection

For the ones who read under bedsheets with a flashlight
Who made themselves small when they had big ideas

The ones who papered their walls in beauty
And journaled until the ink ran dry

This is for the ones who had feelings bigger than the sky
Who wore their fragile heart on their sleeve

For the ones who felt they had to hide in the dark
For the ones who waited quietly for the dawn

The ones who waited patiently by a radio for their favourite song
And poured their hearts into the perfect mixtape

This is for the ones who cried during movies
And laughed uncontrollably at inside jokes

For the ones who hugged tight to their friends
For the ones who longed for comfort

The ones who struggled and went in spite of it
Who danced in the rain and didn’t mind getting wet

This is for the ones who were burned by first love
Who were battle scarred, tender, and afraid

For the ones who couldn’t get their favourite quotes out of their head
And couldn’t put into words what their hearts knew

Who thought they were too much but not enough
And grew to find their sunshine anyway

This is for you.

I am one of the millions who have discovered Heated Rivalry, a story about love and the courage to find yourself. Last week, I saw a social media prompt that asked "share something about yourself that HR ... made you love more (or love again, in a new way)." I was inspired to write. (1/2)

This is such a delightful series by the most delightful author! If you've ever felt frustrated that romance always seems to feature young adults, @brennabaileybooks.bsky.social has the cure for you!

Anyone wondering why a made in Canada story about queer hockey players celebrating consent, character, love & strong female characters (that also questions hyper-masculinity and its institutions) resonates the way it does, I invite you to take a look at today’s headlines.

Storytelling matters.

Understanding Authenticity Reading: Its Importance and Impact by Alicia Chantal “It’s really about respecting someone’s lived experience.” I use this answer a lot when I get asked what a sensitivity reader does. The thing is, no amount of words can adequately…

“It’s really about respecting someone’s lived experience.”

I’m fortunate to have the opportunity to share my thoughts on authenticity reading in this week’s Editors Toronto article.

A series of recent government actions has raised serious questions about free speech, press freedom, and the free flow of information. The Board of Directors of ACES: The Society for Editing condemns actions that lessen the ability of people to be heard and informed in our democracy.

Ahh, episode 6! 🤧🥹 Is it cheating to say I loved all of it? My word… I loved Ilya and Shane’s ILYs. Scott’s awards speech. The way Ilya calmed Shane when he was panicking in front of his parents (that little kiss!). The two of them playing soccer and just being free. Perfection.

What about you? ☺️
