If a robot, devoid of will, can run a half marathon, then an equally unthinking, unfeeling stretch or road completes its own race instantaneously by running from start to finish.

Nearly 80 students forced into 400+ push-ups at school, many diagnosed with permanent kidney damage, lawsuit says A dozen families in Texas filed a lawsuit against a charter school after nearly 20 students suffered potentially life-threatening injuries in February.

Since everyone who knows my #science is sending me this article: YEP, THEM KIDS GOT RHABDOMYOLYSIS-INDUCED ACUTE KIDNEY INJURY! And their risks for Stroke, Hypertention, Reproductive Risk, Demetia, and Death (SHReDD) just skyrocketed. GOOD JOB, ASSHOLE COACHES.

I know someone who had rhabdo last year after a workout. We haven't found resources about if working out should change going forward, and what else to keep an eye on (drs don't seem to know). Would appreciate recommendations if you have them.

20 new 287(g) agreements added just today! Public trust in the agency may have tanked, but local police are still very eager to partner with ICE.

Screenshot of article which reads: An increasing number of scholars and artists are likely to pursue these fellowship opportunities in the wake of disruptions in federal funding. Private funders’ choices will play a key role in determining which scholars are able to explore under the “freest possible conditions,” in the process revealing their vision for the future of research and creative pursuits. There is no shortage of talent and brilliance across the country and the larger world. Funders get to decide how they identify that talent—and, equally importantly, whose talent they choose to cultivate.

Screenshot of article which reads: The historical trends show that the longstanding methods of selection, which often overlook the cumulative advantages provided by prestigious institutional affiliation, tend to coincidentally find talent in the same places, year after year. Ignoring this reality will result in replicating the status hierarchy of the past decades, all too often rewarding those already flush with resources at the risk of slowing or even halting innovative work from those less well-connected.

Got the idea for this project when I applied for one of these and couldn't find any research on who wins them. I honestly don't know that I would apply again after collecting this data & having to think hard about what it means to hope you're the exception that allows status to maintain its power.
