Mamdani hasn't had time to really think about all that space he now has, because he spends most of his time at City Hall and around New York City. He tries to keep a semblance of his old life by getting around the city on foot, by bike or train.

"If you spend every single day driving around in a tinted window security detail, you will have a very specific view of the city," he said. "You actually meet other New Yorkers and you break out of the bubble that so many have come to expect of politics, where politicians only seem to be spending time with other politicians or the people who donated to make them politicians."

I'd say that this applies to anyone traveling in a car in any city. Being in a car versus walking, riding, or taking transit fundamentally changes how you view a place and your relationship to it. I wish more leaders set this kind of example.

Hi 👋🏻 I’m a self-described agnostic/atheist raised loosely in the anglican tradition. I’ve always been around Jewish families though and am finding myself drawn to some of the work being done by Rabbi’s such as yourself and Rabbi Rutenberg and wanting to explore Judaism more deeply. Is Parsha chat ..

I'm currently writing a blog post about what other countries are doing to address “high gas prices.”

Australia (Victoria): All trains, trams, and buses free for the entire month of April.
Australia (Tasmania): All public buses free until the end of June.

run out of milk?
With none of those annoying walkable stores, you get to drive 20 mins.
there's nothing more freeing than having to drive everywhere for everything.

“Every $1,300 New York City invested in building bike lanes in 2015 provided benefits equivalent to one additional year of life at full health over the lifetime of all city residents, according to a new economic assessment.”

That’s a better return on investment than some direct health treatments…”

Such a great way of thinking about hobbies. Especially considering how American culture seem to despise them as something worthless.

I have ARFID and rely on Ensure to hit some of my nutrition intake on days when getting all my nutrition from actual food is too difficult and its not that straightforward to find a replacement that I can tolerate. The chocolate Ensure has been my go to for ages and now I can’t get hold of it.

Does anyone in South Africa (in particular the Western Cape) know what is happening with Ensure (the original version not the Gold/Plus version)? It’s been out of stock everywhere and I see on the abbot RSA site they now only list the Gold/Plus versions.

"How can you oppose war when Khamenei was evil?"

Simple. If you killed Donald Trump by nuking Washington DC, I would not mourn Trump but I'd still say you're an evil war criminal who belongs in the Hague. It's really not hard.

Fascinating and deeply satisfying resolution to why adenovirus-based vaccines produced blood clots in 1 out of 200,000 people.

Two factors interacted:
a mutation in an antibody gene + weak similarities between a viral protein & a human blood-clotting protein = induced clotting cascade.

ICYMI | Why are so many people in South Africa unaware and seemingly unconcerned about the extraordinarily high numbers of people infected with TB in our country? Could we take TB more seriously as a country?

In April 2024, Spotify implemented a new scheme: songs with less than 1k streams per year would no longer receive royalties.

The data for 2025 was just released via Luminate, and 88% of songs have been demonetized.

Read it again: 88% of songs on Spotify have been demonetized.
