I get to write about some pretty unusual medical case reports for @livescience.com, and this one was a doozy. A woman in the UK suddenly started hearing voices urging her to get medical attention for a brain tumor, despite having no symptoms or prior diagnosis. The "voices" turned out to be right π§ͺ

We officially have a revolving loan fund for social housing!
The Calvin's dad explaining records meme. He is explaining that the two kinds of meme are Calvin's dad and Loss. Despite being a meme about Calvin's dad, this one is Loss.
I say this as a Christian, fwiw, and so I am biased. I am biased in that I, personally, don't think the Trump-as-Jesus image is as offensive to my faith as, say, seeing Liam Ramos being hustled away from his school by ICE.
He does such a great job of just letting Nixon speak for himself and show who he is without much commentary. And that film came out pre-Watergate!
Criterion's spotlight on Emile de Antonio just dropped and it's a must watch. His newsreel of sorts on the McCarthy hearings is such a strange film to watch in 2026--a moment of an ascendant right, but w/a functioning state apparatus. Also: Trump's mentor! www.criterionchannel.com/directed-by-...
Biggest takeaway was we should all hate Richard Nixon more.
My housemate and I watched a handful of his movies last year and really loved what a incredible time capsule they were. And hated how relevant everything still felt.
"devout woke religious mainliner with politics to the left of America as a whole" is basically like 70% of the clergy in TEC and PCUSA
This is amazing from a city that doesn't even rank in the top 25 in population.
Appreciate your thoughtfulness in this decision!
Also, I do organizong in Clackamas (around some of the key issues you named) and would love to connect.
Mark Shull is (allegedly) a domestic abuser and (factually) a vile racist who lost his seat in 2024 and I kinda doubt he'll get much traction.
REALLY hopeful about Fischer ousting West - it was a reasonably close race last time and Dem turnout should be better than it was in 2022.
Possibly most interesting to me is that three past commissioners are running against incumbent commissioners.
Jim Bernard and Mark Shull are both running against Paul Savas and Sonya Fischer is running for her old seat against Ben West (who she lost to in 2022).
we started the morning repeatedly saying "god has forsaken us" and [pause to refresh the primary page one more time] ended the day feeling... hopeful?
graph of severity of mania/depression over time, with text superimposed reading "Bros...... we're back. it's so over. we're so back. it's over. bros.... it's over (real)" corresponding to the high and and low points of the graph.

Always really exciting to be the City Council nerd at the research meeting.
Leaving a public comment is easy and took me less than a minute. Link toward bottom of article. Super worth-it.
you might say the ELCA prays well with others
Saying this as Republicans are actively trying to play Armageddon chicken with God is quite something.
Iβve seen enough. Not about the election. Just generally.
0.000% of Communism has been built. Evil child-murdering billionaires still rule the world with a shit-eating grin. All he has managed to do is make himself *sad*. He is starting to suspect Kras Mazov *fucked him over* personally with his socio-economic theory.
This story, from @natezuke.bsky.social, is absolutely wild. A trans woman who never changed her gender marker was issued a letter invalidating her license. At the DMV they cut up her license, which had an "M" marker.

Portland is poised to be the largest U.S. city to allow polyamorous families to sue over discrimination.
You're also making a false equivalence between a couple passages from Hebrew Bible texts (which were not written from a monotheistic lens) and the New Testament which is monotheistic but has no texts ordering executions.
The Bible isn't one coherent thing, nor is Christianity.
There is no one true static version of Christianity, it's constantly changing and being reinterpreted in new contexts. You don't have to like or even respect it, but people have dedicated themselves to finding and living out versions of Christianity that are liberative to them and their communities.
Remember hearing about this from a neighbor at a community walk a few months back and was so charmed. Glad to hear it's actually happening!
Liberation theology has been around since the 1970s and the social gospel movement since the 1870s. There's a lot of work that's been done in liberative, feminist, and queer Christian theologies, but the Christofascists have worked very hard to discredit and erase that history.
Every news story is now βState Senator Randy Pervert (R-Springfield) was indicted on 8 counts of lewd behavior with a child under 12 and has been put on paid leave from his two jobs as Border Patrol liaison and youth pastor at First Presbyterian (PCA) where parishioners say they were βblindsided.ββ
Lent is the time of year Christians emulate Jesus who, in the desert, Christmogged Satan and showed us all how to holinessmax
