The expectation is that we use wireless earplugs. But I prefer cable ones, even if they get tangled!

That's why I got my mum a Fairphone. And once my phone died I got myself one.
Only annoying detail: no earplugs port which disappoints me because I have plenty of old school earplugs which I'm hearing young people are bringing back in fashion.

Thanks this is very interesting!

I just subscribed only to read this one, but not to the paid one. This is super interesting, though! Are all articles tech-related?

Omg, I know the feeling! Well done, congrats.

This of course makes sense but how they are sneakily bringing this back in without a proper conversation on the damage of Brexit is quite stunning.

Oh no! It's one of the reasons why I know I could never go to Mars ๐Ÿ˜‚

As a person who gets Very serious motion sickness I can only marvel at this!

As a woman in the workplace it is important to remember that men will eventually side w/ other men (even those they despise) over you and your professional advice when they see disagreement.
Very sorry to say this. I've worked with amazing men. The ones I'd trust to stick to their word are few.

I am reading stuff that makes my head explode. What was that image about? I can't make sense of it. It's like we are all trapped in a drunken dream of sort

I kind of laughed but apparently... This is a thing that happened?!

This.
But from the rooftops, please!

The obsession with measuring linguistic competence is definitely a colonial legacy. One that even orgs like the Red Cross and similar international ones still use to select personnel. The concept seems to be that if this is not the language you got your schooling in, you'll never be good enough.

Plenty of situations are not clear cut. My friend speaks Italian at home to her child. The child picks up Dutch at kindergarten. Which one is his "native" language? The language spoken at home tends to be intimate and informal, one spoken at school, has a broader range. It's a silly classification

Not enough face palms.

All quite surreal, frankly.

Because we knew.
We literally knew at the time.
Not in hindsight or in the depth of or souls.
People gave statements in committees. It was a political choice that we saw unfolding.

I do, thanks.
The entire contracts and pay thing is so messed up that I'm fighting that on one side (not much for myself but for the system that needs to change) but I want to be involved in other stuff too. I think collective action is how we can hope to improve things. Glad I (virtually) met you!

Good read for a Sunday!

I was told literally on Thursday that I am "the best person for the job, which we acknowledge is very challenging" by the same person who is still keeping me on a temp contract. And who agrees that the guy who treats me like an idiot is wrong.
We cannot win. I am so angry.

It's frankly depressing that I've been pushing back against this nonsense in the workplace for 20y and this keeps happening.

Very VERY tangential note but I'm still annoyed at the tone that a colleague with an over inflated ego uses with me sending ToDo lists explaining to me how to do my job. A job he Definitely cannot (and is not recruited to) do.
Then I see this and I can't but sigh and think we're in good company.

And residents should have that right too, imo.

This is amazing.
But also, libraries are places of absolute drama. The lady who runs my writing group has some unbelievable stories of jealousy and vengeance. Why would anyone mess with librarians is beyond me!

But does it? It definitely does not make me feel safer because of its randomness and sense of incompetence.
Nothing makes me feel safe in being barked at for the most ridiculous reasons around volumes of liquids or type of shoes or hoodie that I was never asked to remove before but now I have to.
