Today in thieves, cheats & grifters on the internet.

Talent500, who have a gold check account on twitter, copied a few bits of my article that I worked for 3 weeks on. Could not even be bothered to copy enough to get to a working solution, stopped at intermediary steps. And "forgot" to give credit.

@demesos.bsky.social I've been enjoying your onehourjam games! I would've gone crazy on the Wrestling Manager as a 12-year-old. I always loved Football Manager despite not being into football *at all*

Anyway, I admire your productivity! Thanks for the games.

Because every font can have a different thing happening when you turn on a stylistic set. For this "Helvetica" it's these weird small caps, for another font in the stack it might be extra fat serifs, or umlauts that look like cat ears. You never know!

5 months ago 2 0 0 0

Ha yeah! The Windows Arial has this weird `ss02` set (if you drop it in the Wakamai Fondue *beta* it will tell you the name of the feature, by the way!)

This is a good example of why `font-variant` was introduced, so you can tell the browser your intent, not what low level feature should be on.

They're busy humans, perhaps it's still on the @fontsinuse.com backlog?

5 months ago 0 0 1 0

Oh that would be fun! There's a lot of tiny details that folks might not know about, and I love to talk about :-) It will be released later this month, but I haven't picked a date yet. Mind if I keep you in the loop?

Oh interesting, I haven't played with `content-visibility` yet!

I created FontJit because I really need 107% full control, and do stuff like kicking off animations or transitions. The use case is very much sites in the "font world", not so much "regular sites", so that might be a bit too esoteric.

Code examples to use FontJit with JavaScript

Code examples to use FontJit with JavaScript

FontJit just graduated to v1.1.0! πŸŽ“

You can now also tap into the loading with JavaScript, listening to promises and doing your computer programming based on how they resolve.

Still very lean at 743 bytes (minified and compressed, of course)

Wait, why not?

Oh cool, looking forward to coming across it! Thanks again :-)

With the Fondue coming out of beta *finally* this month, I toyed with the idea of making quick videos, dropping fonts in the fondue and showing different aspects and features and the CSS. But you do it a lot better than I could!

5 months ago 0 0 1 0

Hey hey! Thanks so much for the shoutout! With that many glyph and features, the fondue takes a while to get bubbling, it seems! Superprobably an issue in my code, I'll take a look. Now back to the stream!

GitHub - RoelN/FontJit: Lazy loading fonts via JavaScript Lazy loading fonts via JavaScript. Contribute to RoelN/FontJit development by creating an account on GitHub.

FontJit is a small utility to efficiently lazy-load fonts! πŸš€

FontJit gives you full control over how and when your fonts are loaded, and what should happen before, during and after.

Useful if you're working on font specimen sites, minisites, or huge font collections!

Oh thanks for sharing! Lots of folks I know from the Twitter days but somehow lost track of (as far as I can tell with all the Halloween names ;-))

Well, that's a good idea anyway!

Hey, were we friends in the Twitter days?

I don't seem to get much Engagementβ„’ here on Bluesky and I wonder if that's because the algorithm is shunning me, or because I only post occasionally (cause: little engagement!), or maybe simply because nobody likes me here :P

Anyway, wanna be friends?

5 months ago 3 0 2 0

Agreed on block/swap. In fact for icon fonts I actually prefer to have a FOIT -- icons should stay invisible until the font has loaded. This can be done with pure HTML/CSS, and with JavaScript if you want to have even more control over how the icons pop into visibility!

5 months ago 1 0 0 0

Does any modern icon library still do that?

Icons mapped to characters (that don't match the icon's design!) is bad practice anyway. Either map them to Unicode's PUA, or use the Unicode value if it exists.

Type-X is back! Easily test your fonts on *any* website with this Chrome extension.

This was originally published about 5 years ago, but stopped working due to browser evolution. Now it's fixed, updated and ready to go!

Oh I missed it due to Dutch dinner time. Is there somewhere I can watch or read what you discussed?

6 months ago 0 0 1 0

Oh boy I'd love to ride there, that looks absolutely awesome. Closest I can get to that kind of view is Germany, which is *not* the Rocky mountains. In the Netherlands, the height difference with that other road in the background would be considered "pretty mountainous".
