If you can find it, Clinton’s response to the basket blowback is fascinating. She didn’t walk back the term itself. She suggested that in the Q&A format, she may have inadvertently included too many people in the basket.
Of course, now…

This week, Brexit finally killed our family business. We cleared out our warehouse, handed back the keys, paid the final bills and said goodbye to our last employee.
What was once a thriving firm died a slow, sad death, all thanks to Farage, Johnson and the gullible idiots they conned. 1/18

Indefensible rhetoric by any measure and clearly being used to lay foundation for atrocities.

For the record, the Persian civilization specifically dates back more than 3,000 years and human habitation in the region more than 100,000.

I do regret somehow losing “often” as I was drafting.

If your piece is putting people to sleep, is an adverb really going to help? 😉

Clever—not my intention. Perhaps I should’ve stuck to my original word choice: the reader. But I was cutting to fit.

Academic writers:

“Notably/importantly/interestingly" come across as a bit of self-congratulation, leaving us wondering why we’re supposed to find something noteworthy, agree with its importance, or share your interest.

Don’t tell us how to respond; make a case that elicits that response.

Random peeve: people grump that gay used to mean—or really means—happy. No, it didn’t and doesn’t. Sexual/affectional orientation usage aside, it meant/means: merry, festive, mirthful, fun; bumping up against giddy; not far from manic.
Further connotations, clarifications, and corrections welcome.

what does she think pediatricians do, restrain parents and hold down the kids??

she's asking for information and consent -- which already happens! -- as a canard to restrict vaccines

House MAGA Republicans buck Trump on tariffs but happily green light his plan to keep people from voting so they can stay in power. Never forget that this is a regime of the bullies, by the bribes, for the billionaires.

Man I'm so goddamn sick of ai. "Wahhh you can't have a reasonable conversation about ai on here," yeah maybe be mad about the two year parade of scam artists and financial charlatans and environmental ruiners who have radicalized everyone against the spell check that agrees with you

Despite the Trump administration's much vaunted *tone shift* Stephen Miller and his team are still out here comparing anti-ICE protesters to ISIS.

After killing Renee Good, ICE fascists in Minneapolis have now arrested and detained 4 members of Oglala Sioux Tribe.

ICE HAS ARRESTED AND DETAINED INDIGENOUS AMERICANS.

These ICE fascists are not here to keep us safe, but to advance white supremacy. Defund and abolish ICE permanently.

The woman killed by ICE today was a poet. She won the 2020 Academy of American Poets, University & College Poetry Prize at Old Dominion University.

(And this is Renee from confirmed socials- a photo of a different woman with red lipstick is going around, but that was a classmate.)

As a copy editor, I note they manage to name-check Franklin with a cryptic invocation of the quote they don’t quite give us, in favor of airily labeling it as “famous“.

Abortion in early America - PubMed This piece describes abortion practices in use from the 1600s to the 19th century among the inhabitants of North America. The abortive techniques of women from different ethnic and racial groups as found in historical literature are revealed. Thus, the point is made that abortion is not simply a "no …

Alito found precedent in a 16th century British witch burner instead of the facts. Abortion was frequently practiced in North America from the 1600s on. In the British colonies abortions were legal if they were performed prior to quickening (16-20 weeks).

Calling out a fascist for taking a hypocritical position is easy. It's also a complete waste of time. Fascist rhetoric is aesthetics— pathos, never logos.

You'll never get anywhere pointing out a fascist's hypocrisy. Fascism is not to be debated, it's to be smashed. Get comfortable using power.

Wow. Genuinely shocked, and a hugely consequential decision.

Importantly, this is a case where @martylederman.bsky.social's amicus brief appears to have made a MAJOR impact. Before he wrote it, courts were sidestepping the "regular forces" issue entirely. And that's what the Trump admin lost on.

The horns and whistles work What it's like to watch community activists stand up to a Border Patrol raid.

When Customs and Border Protection and Commander Gregory Bovino move into town, so does Whistlemania.

Activists create and distribute thousands of 3D-printed whistles, and their piercing cries are used to signal that immigration agents are nearby.
