the absolute most charitable thing you can say about a lot of democratic lawmakers is that they want to hold onto a political order that no longer exists

Rep. Zooey Zephyr - My Wife - just gave an incredible speech against a drag ban in Montana. It was so strong that a Republican rose to speak passionately against the bill, chastising the sponsor.

The drag ban dies in Montana, flips 10+ Republican votes!

This is the power of representation.

Judge Blocks Trump Trans Ban Nationwide, Slams Reliance On Cass Review The ruling applies nationwide, and should allow hospitals that temporarily paused care to resume.

1. A Federal Judge has blocked Trump's under 19 trans care ban nationwide.

In the decision, he slams the Government's reliance on the Cass Review, jeopardizes youth health, and likely violates several constitutional principles.

Those 10 flips were enough to matter only because Democrats made big gains in the Montana legislature in November (+12 across both chambers).

I broke it down here: boltsmag.org/legislative-...

Why November's granular election news matters in the following legislative session.

I have to say it is a special kind of hell to have watched all of this anti-trans rhetoric and legislation build up for the last 5 years in states and to report on it today.

It feels like a nonstop hose of the worst things imaginable. There are dozens of stories I still haven’t gotten to.

Senate sets up vote to restrict trans women from women's sports The House passed similar legislation in January.

ALERT! It just broke that tomorrow, the Senate will attempt a procedural vote on a transgender sports ban.

It will take 7 Democrats breaking rank in order to have enough votes to pass cloture.

Democrats held very strong in the House and only lost two votes.

This is a stunning betrayal by Whitman Walker in DC.

You CANNOT jettison the trans community to protect yourself.

It’s shameful. I got my name changed at WWH. I have promoted their research.

Now they are capitulating to save gay people at trans people’s expense by trying to erase us.

Lisa Sterle's incredible Ten of Swords tarot card from the Modern Witch tarot, depicting a woman with long hair lying on a jagged landscape under an ominous sky. She's stuck full of swords and looking at her phone. It's captioned EVERYTHING IS FINE.

Dear Dr. Santelises,

I am the parent of two Baltimore City Public School students at [redacted] School.

I am writing to ask if the Baltimore City school board could issue a statement of support and solidarity with our transgender and non-binary students after the recent executive orders negating both the very existence of trans people, and the order that attempts to prevent schools from using preferred names and pronouns. The education order also restricts trans youth from using restrooms and changing facilities that match their gender identity, and from joining appropriate athletic teams.

I am a transgender parent who has already experienced a lack of regard for trans people in the school system. Two years ago when I confronted a teacher who would not allow my daughter to refer to me by my correct pronouns, citing the non-discrimination policy, I was told that it was only the student who had to be respected, not me. It feels dehumanizing to be viewed as less worthy of respect than my child for being trans, and I am even more concerned about how trans children are being treated.

Those of us who care deeply about the frightening dehumanization of trans people would feel heartened if the district took a firm and public stand on this - quickly. Let us continue the work of sanctuary by declaring Baltimore City a safe, nurturing space for trans youth and adults, just as you did for immigrant families.

I look forward to your response,

In my years of reporting on LGBTQ news this was by far the hardest.

But we are still here. You made it to Friday. You lived. Good job. That wasn’t easy.

Through a diversity of tactics, we will continue to live.

Rest up, drink water, find community, so that we can all be here tomorrow too.

Alright all - I'm stepping away for this evening. I'll be back in later tonight to see if there's any more updates.

Stay safe, if you're trans, stay with us, we are not giving up.

And most of all... these EOs are not law, they are not passed by congress, do NOT comply.

This is my favorite picture of Stonewall.

They knew they were getting arrested just for being LGBTQ+.

Yet... they're still here, standing outside of the boarded up Stonewall Inn, smiling as the world was at a fever pitch of hatred against them.

I think about it a lot in moments like this.

alright you wanna know how to support trans people?

hire them. It's REALLY hard already for visibly trans people to get jobs, even before this shit.

Support places that have trans people working front of house, and make sure owners know that's part of why you're there.
