The writing is so gently immersive and atmospheric; each page makes me feel as though I am following an actual historical Tang dynasty investigation led by the MC Zhou Linfeng, but also the broader A/B/O worldbuilding we see permeating and influencing the case throughout the zine. I absolutely love Zhou Linfeng -- he is such a straightforward and darling man. The rest of the cast stand out strong and complex even if we only see them in glimpses. Special shoutout to Minister Yuezheng <3 So excited to see his interactions with Zhou Linfeng. The exposition of the case and the way its elements come together tie up the ending resolutely. It's a satisfying conclusion, and I had to commend the author for reading the Analects of Confucius for this. Amazing work!!! Thank you so much for sharing and excited to see more!!!

worthwhile read just for zhou linfeng's attitude toward being offered food and beverages In all seriousness, a truly beautiful work! It tackles some really heavy social topics but in an empathetic way that imo very well parallels what gender roles can do in reality. but also has some really well thought through ABO worldbuilding that ties nicely into the case progress. Very good characterization, so that it feels like everyone involved in the encounters leading up to the story events really do have their own complex motivations \^v^/ and, ahem, some very good foreshadowing, too. The story's implied outcome is not what you'd expect at first but makes perfect sense in these specific circumstances as a way to minimize the relevant harm done within that available framework, methinks. also. and there is a glossary, which is so important to me as someone with language processing issues and gives some very nice insight on the relevant historical research.

The case was passed along to the Court of Judicial Review, who promptly assigned it to its newly promoted Vice Minister, Zhou Linfeng. itch.io review of Cypress Boat by user mmuted: Happy owner of a physical copy! ❤️ I'm thrilled every time I read through this, yall omg. The art is stunning of course, I get excited every time I see it, but the writing especially is incredible and gets you hooked within the first ten pages with descriptions and character mannerisms that really set the scene and keep you reading more. Genuinely phenomenal stuff at a quality that surpasses a lot of what you'll find at the book store. I dont want to spoil anything story wise for other readers so I'm trying really hard not to dive into specifics there but Sun Fang's situation gets me SO emotional SOBS I do want to give Xie Tianyu a shoutout, too, she's so cool!! Self-indulgently imagining one of my boys as a background character as I reread for the nth time and hoping one day I can write with as much flavor as Cypress Boat has in every page, man. Keep up the incredible work, my loves, you're genuinely such an inspiration!!
