The truth about child IQ: research shows it fluctuates and may be an unreliable predictor of future success Research has shown that children who are emotionally stable, motivated and capable of controlling their impulses do better at school.

@marghmalanchini.bsky.social from QMUL discusses the stability and malleability of cognitive test scores in childhood and reviews to what extent scientific evidence supports using a single test taken in primary school to inform fundamental educational decisions.

Reminder that, as of the latest reports, Liam Ramos is still in prison in Texas - now for 5 days.

His parents are legal asylum seekers with no criminal record.

I have become mightily interested in the causal effect of “forever chemicals” and plastics on gynecological health.

I want to make sure our new menstruation data in ALSPAC and Born in Bradford can be used to research this.

Anyone know who’s big in (causal) epidemiology of this sort of exposure?

Very cool data! Presumably no info on ADHD or ASD symptoms in this cohort? It becomes trickier to disentangle some ADHD symptoms from MCI in older cohorts.

Looks like adhd genetic risk assoc with some aspects of UKBB part (eg FFQ)? V. exciting to have these ADHD/ASD data in an older cohort! adhd genetic risk already v interesting at this age, eg adhd prs assoc w/ treatment resistant depress. in UKBB (could hypothesise mis/underdiagnosis in older gen?)

Usually loss to follow up associated with higher adhd traits, at least looking at childhood adhd traits and longer term longitudinal studies... not sure this has been looked at as much for asd?

Today we had the launch event for our Centre for Brain & Behaviour! Lots of cool research from our PIs and contributions from companies, charities, and publishers. Great fruitful discussion and exchanges. Watch this space!

I'm angry all the time these days, but it's actually unfathomable to me that one person has the power to halt scientific progress, doing *generational* damage. For literally all of our sakes, someone needs to do something. Get this man out of the government.

Since the 1940s, the engine driving U.S. economic and military competitiveness has been federal support of research universities. Now Trump is sabotaging a research and development pipeline that is the envy of the world.

Pediatricians say that childhood vaccines are safe. A heroin-addled nepo baby with a brain worm says they may not be. For busy voters, it can be hard to know who to believe.

It’s a real shame that folks with mental illness have to fight not only their symptoms but also concerted efforts to undermine their treatment. 😢

The @nytimes.com mag published a long piece entitled “rethinking adhd”. Here is a 🧵 highlighting its factual & logical errors
