Does it have one now? Or has it fully returned to the mists?

That's Vancouver heritage right there.
Partisan first lost its meaning when the Non-Partisan Association (NPA) began as a municipal party all the way back in 1937. And, of course, that was Bligh's original home too, all the way back in 2018.
"If everybody in this place is saying that they want certainty, then that's going to be through relationship-building with First Nations."
Totally agree with Olsen here, as have the courts, and glad Eby has pivoted in this direction. Again.

My sympathies. FWIW, I started the antihistamine early this year in anticipation, and so far haven't experienced April nearly as bad as last year...
"In its Sunday letter, the First Nations Leadership Council said any attempts to amend or suspend the act will be met with a legal challenge."
Eby's efforts to suspend DRIPA to prevent "serious litigation risk" sure seem to be creating some serious litigation risk.

Yeah, also it's just super-visible as a corner lot. I've stopped to watch folks working on it from time to time too, and noticed others doing the same.
3806 W 8th.
With additional addresses of 2415 and 2417 Highbury, per VanMap.
Good question. I definitely see a streamlined track for Vancouver multiplex split into two buildings. But from my quick perusal of the standardized design catalogue linked by CoV, doesn't look like a specific match? vancouver.ca/home-propert...
Imaged of zoning & ODP from VanMap https://maps.vancouver.ca/vanmap-viewer/
Photo of new twin duplex at 8th & Highbury still under construction, but where structure is complete
Fun to observe this 4-unit "twin duplex" being built at 8th & Highbury under Vancouver's R1-1 zone. But wild that we're still requiring such low-density in both zoning & ODP right between Jericho & a future Skytrain stop!
(Also props to VanMap for including the ODP layer now)
The funniest bit to me is right below that it says the top reason the Pine St route was chosen was that it could be "built quickly."
I mean, to be fair, checking in on the state of certain right-wing types, they MIGHT consider that a novel - if concerning - idea?
Plus babies' ideas are reliably terrible.
Immigrants' ideas, on the other hand, are frequently awesome!
This is a really important piece from @adampolsen.bsky.social on how we got here that also explains why we've been renaming things around the province to remove "Trutch"
We should maybe add it as a swear though. Consider:
"Why is everything so Trutched up around here?"
"What a pile of Trutch!"
When Vancouver Empty Homes Tax + BC School Tax get together for a little road trip to NYC.
I love how this reminded me that I took a photo of the yarrow growing in my haskap box for the specific purpose of reminding myself to research whether it might be suppressing the growth of the haskap nearby.
And it turns out it might be! pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC...
Really appreciate Russil diving into the weeds of Metro Vancouver governance, illustrating what makes him a great @onecityvan.bsky.social candidate for a City Council nomination.
Here the 0% property tax hike pledges & logic of short-sighted leaders risk pushing fees up on needed new housing.
Meme from Patrick Condon claiming that increasing density by 4x merely increases land prices by 4x, with no saving in land cost per sqft of housing.
Image from pushtheneedle, showing that when land prices are constant as density increases, the land cost per home falls with density, which reduces the price per home.
Two incorrect models of land and housing
Left: land values and density increase 1-1, so land cost per sqft of housing is constant. This assumes perfectly elastic demand for land.
Right: land prices are constant as density increases. This assumes zoning is not a constraint.

Big news. OneCity, COPE, and the Greens have signed a Progressive Unity Agreement. We did the hard work, and we got it done. Here's what it means and why it matters.
These are good picks!
{cancensus} v0.6.0 is now on CRAN. This version includes a long list of performance improvements as well as a new feature to help visualize census variable hierarchies in the console. Big thanks to @dshkol.bsky.social for leading the work on this release!
Great case for how better integrating AI could've boosted your productivity, I'm sure!
"Poilievre does something in this op-ed [on Adam Smith] that is a...common error: he reads Smith’s concept of sympathy as...a market mechanism...This is a remarkable inversion of Smith’s actual argument."
Speaking of being badly educated on economics deadfortaxreasons.wordpress.com/2026/03/09/p...
Figure from page 10 of linked report demonstrating a marked rise in perception that building new market-rate housing will reduce cost of housing for residents.
Wary of reading too much into trend, but results of the US mayoral survey suggest:
1) Research + YIMBY messaging & activism are getting through
2) Most strongly for Democrats

Partisan views on rising housing cost causes
This survey showing* that Republican mayors believe limits on property rights and free association in *their* cities are just fine is a sight to behold

* Yes, I am interpreting the results
"While some will say that the North American market simply loves these big cars and won’t buy small ones, remember that the auto industry spends tens of billions of dollars on advertising to this market every year. We deserve better."
Yeah, I think he's been contributing to the panic around these issues rather than acting as the calming voice of negotiated reconciliation that we need - and that would serve his own party much better.
Good.
"[T]he legislation will not be introduced this week as planned... the bill will still be introduced later in the legislative session, but when it is, it will not be a confidence motion as Premier David Eby originally declared." www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...
Yes, but this is Canary Wharf erasure...
