Shoulda spent a trillion dollars on data centers!
In fact, one of the first thing historians will point to is the failure of Reconstruction.
i would describe my current orientation as wanting a "yes we can (hang the motherfuckers)", candidate, yes
A grid photo of 16 different characters all played by the legend Tim Curry.
Tim Curry, the absolute legend, turns 80 today. This man took huge swings.
Nobody says this and I hate that so many Democrats waste time pretending what maybe insider, nonprofit speak is somehow bad, common, and too sophisticated for “regular” folks. “I don’t do too much of that book learnin’”
like maybe the public would be getting less frothy and toothy about this if big tech hadn’t spent the last three years constantly threatening the public with impoverishment and feudal control, idk
personally I agree that we should indeed reject the hollow pluralism of pretending that we shouldn't judge Klan, Nazi, and sparkling eugenicist subcultures according to what they have historically produced, and would enthusiastically endorse rejecting inclusion of them in public life
That’s a beaut!
"Was it worth the carbon?" seems like the wrong question for truly singular buildings. You can make the case for concrete for the single most important museum building in a metro or 13 million people. It's every other building where you need to find carbon savings www.theguardian.com/artanddesign...
i read both this and the vibecession convo as evidence of increasingly fractured collective sense-making. epistemic enclaves with varying levels of rigor, many still using empirical tools and data to understand the world, but even the data and tools are dissociated from each other.
I think a lot of ostensibly pro-climate people in energy (e.g. regulatory, policy, research), broadly speaking, have made the foregone conclusion that data centers are inevitable so should be done “right,” and I think this is wildly mistaken.
First power delivered from USA's largest offshore wind farm--2.6 GW off Virginia.
Trump's tariffs and order to stop construction raised costs by $808 million!
Federal courts threw out the illegal order, but it caused months of delay.

Gonna get a lot of ‘But Black Dynamite, *I* benefit from climate destroying corporate welfare!’ If ever we crack down on climate destroying corporate welfare
The “Calvin’s dad explains two types” meme, inspired by a Calvin and Hobbes cartoon. Clockwise from top left: 1) Calvin’s dad walks into frame to find Calvin trying to operate a record player. The dad says: “There are only two industries left in America: gambling, and fraud.” 2) The dad shows where the record goes, and how to turn on the player, while Calvin watches. Dad says “Derivatives? Gambling. AI? Fraud. Video games? Gambling. Social media? Fraud.” Calvin says “yeah”. 3) With one hand open palm up, Calvin’s dad cheerfully explains to Calvin out of frame below him, “The stock market looks like gambling, but it’s actually fraud.” 4) In bed in a dark room, Calvin clutches at his pillow, eyes wide in existential terror. There is no text in the panel.
If anyone sees/has seen a vimeo/youtube minimovie of the Artemis mission and various interview clips, send that my way, I'm in need of inspiration
Kevin Garnett would be so funny but realistically it’s Vince Staples

Regulate corporations, not people. Start by regulating the use of algorithms to deliver content, don’t allow ads/paid targeting anyone under 16, platform culpability for the spread of misinformation on, require limits on engagement-based user experience design, etc.
