Causes of fascism: powerful nationalism, disdain for human rights, identification of enemies as unifying cause, supremacy of the military, sexism, controlled media, obsession with national security, religion and government intertwined, corporate power protected, labor power suppressed, disdain for intellectuals, obsession with crime, rampant corruption, fraudulent elections
Just in case people need a reminder

I think painting Nazis as inhuman and uniquely grotesque evil for so long has obscured the fact that plenty of them were simply dipshits like him. Nothing special about them. Banality of evil etc.
Also it all happens out in the open. It did back then too.

Something I didn't realize how much I needed was a galvanizing figure in Kamala Harris.
It felt like you could put your energy and resources behind her and it would have amounted to something. Anything.
Now? I have all this energy and anger and no where to direct it. I feel hopeless.

A photo of me playing Morrowind on my steam deck with my dog sleeping on my lap.
Finding some moments of peace during all the chaos is important.

My dog, Skippy, staring intently at something in the distant. Snowflakes covering her back and snow all on the ground around her.
Enjoyed the snow today.

As someone stuck in the Xbox sphere due to my PC and friends, it's hard seeing the 360 the only successful console here.
Microsoft has completely lost the plot in the last 15 years.

Strong feeling Elon is running out of time with the rest of the billionaires and Trump. He's not useful now that Trump won.

His wiki shows that he voted for Trump after being a Dem donor but there's no references.
Wondering if this is just a giant smear against him for some reason. It's just *too* tone deaf.

Bluesky is the one silver lining that came out of the election. Makes me happy that we finally have something not owned by Big Tech and (hopefully) won't censor grassroots movements.

Curious. The Devils are 7-2-1 in their last 10 and are trending downward on this graph? They also have a .650 pt pct which is good for 106 pts.
How are they rated so poorly on this?

The United States has oligarchs now.
Not merely rich people with more personal influence on politics than poorer people have, but a few extremely rich people closely connected to the national leader who act in government-like roles despite never being elected or nominated to any official position.

This is a photo of the Washington Post article titled "Democrats need to reclaim reality from the right-wing disinformation machine". The article is blocked by a paywall
This is the problem right here. I don't know how to fix it, but this is a massive part of it.

It is a photo of a Washington Post headline that states "Democrats need to reclaim reality from the right-wing disinformation machine". The article is blocked by a paywall.
This is legitimately the entire problem summed up succinctly in one image.

The recipe for a good social media app isn't hard if you understand that people simply yearn to read and write sentences without angry guys yelling slurs at them

Threads seems full of bots lately now that everyone is leaving twitter. Can't prove it but every post has replied with no PFP, random letters as a username, and are usually stirring the pot against the poster.

Feels like golden age of social media. Where I would tweet jokes and memes, instagram the waffles I made, and facebook was still used to group up with friends.
Hope it lasts though.

#Bluesky reminds me how much I miss casual social media from ~2010. Jokes. Memes. No one taking themselves too seriously. No ads.
Not even much politics, which is fine. I have #threads for that.
It's quite a breath of fresh air.

Absolutely no idea how to connect with people here.
Beyond distraught about this week's election. Terrified for all things fact-based in this world, and ready to fight like hell.
Also here's my dog
