Recently we performed the first #fieldwork in my #FWO postdoc project “playing with fire”. This time we sampled Late Glacial charcoal-rich soils to eventually reconstruct fire regimes and possible human impact in northern Belgium🔥 Next step: labwork!

Currently I'm working @archeougent.bsky.social on studying fire regimes between the Late Glacial period and the Mesolithic through micro- and macrocharcoal research. I'm particularly focused on the interplay between climate change and hunter-gather influence.

This research involved looking at how hunter-gatherer communities responded to short-lived climate events (resilience or collapse?), how mobility and settlement structures changed and what the influence of research bias and taphonomy is on the results.

Hey Bluesky, let me introduce myself! I'm an archaeologist who recently finished his PhD on population dynamics between the Mesolithic and Medieval periods in the Scheldt basin (Belgium and N-France) using summed probability distributions, site counts and modelling of pollen and phoshate data.
