Farage places bet on former chancellor's crypto company

Nigel Farage could be in line for a £9 million payday before the next general election if the crypto business he has invested in flourishes.
The Reform UK leader invested £215,000 in Stack BTC, a bitcoin treasury company, last week before adding a further £60,650 into the group on Wednesday.
Stack is chaired by Kwasi Kwarteng, the former Conservative chancellor who was responsible for the 2022 minibudget and subsequent financial chaos.
Yet Farage’s initial investment in the company, which operates to buy businesses and hold crypto, is only a part of the deal. He also has access to “warrants”, which act in a similar way to share options, and will become exercisable either in January 2028 or if Stack’s market capitalisation exceeds £100 million for five consecutive days. The company is valued at about £9 million.
Farage is the most vocal British politician championing crypto and has made bold assertions about his plans for it should he enter Downing Street.
He has said he would allow people to pay their taxes with crypto and would launch a sovereign wealth fund of digital currency assets. Reform became the first main party to accept donations through bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies last year.
An expert in cryptocurrency who wished to remain anonymous said: “If you incentivise him to deliver a large valuation, he’s going to work hard to deliver it. There’s only two ways you can get that. It’s either through a massive increase in the price of crypto or to influence the attractiveness of the shares [through promotion of the company].”
Farage could use events before the general election to raise the prospect of greater freedom, uses and backing for bitcoin, pushing up its value and that of Stack.
