Meanwhile, in Denmark, the left embraces reamament and increased military spending in the name of "national defence". The strong tradition of anti-militarism, including both left-social democrats and most of the socialist and communist left, is long gone. jacobin.com/2026/03/germ...

Read this excellent piece about the global labor regimes behind the AI hype!
They never should have been sent to Iraq and Afghanistan in the first place to fight for U.S. interests in completely futile and criminal wars that ultimately made things worse.
ah ja, selvfølgelig!

"we had boats landing there, also"... We're truly living in an era of aimless, mad capitalism and irrational imperialist decadence

Pleaseeee can we stop pretending that the main problem with the US attacking and taking control over Venezuela is that they for once haven’t bothered framing their imperialism in international legal discourse? International law won’t save us, it was literally created to justify shit like this
Remember that the US *does not care* about the people of Venezuela. It is not about "narcotrafficking", or "democracy", or whatever propaganda they have going. It is *explicitly* about US control over oil, capital accumulation, and geopolitical power.
Do we really believe that appealing to “international law” can prevent imperialist aggression? History teaches otherwise. We need to abolish the system that creates the conditions for such aggression: global capitalism. If that seems somehow unrealistic, it’s simply necessary to make it less so.
Thanks for a great read, Nate! I’d love to hear more about your thoughts on the extent to which the structure of the capitalist mode of production gives rise to historically specific forms of consciousness (fetishism, mystification, etc.). Have you, by any chance, read Sewell’s work on this?
Ah yes, the repression of origins in capitalist ideology. Where does he say that?
has been downplayed and replaced by a narrative of entrepreneurial landlords and market-oriented farmers. Dimmock's book returns us to the classic story of Tudor enclosures and demonstrates how the very first appearance of agrarian capitalism in the world was political and violent to its core! 2/2
This book is essential reading for historians of capitalism and agriculture. It provides new evidence of the crucial role of peasant expropriation by large landowners in the emergence of agrarian capitalism in England during the 15th-16th centuries. For years, the role of peasant expropriation 1/2

If “nationalise the entire economy” means throwing the market economy into the dustbin of history, count me in!
parties in Europe have forgotten the disastrous lesson of 1914, and are once again lining up behind national rearmament. And just as in 1914, this militarism is justified by invoking the fear of “Russian absolutism”. 2/2
On this day in 1914, Karl Liebknecht stood as the only SPD deputy in the German Reichstag to vote against war credits. The SPD majority’s abandonment of its internationalist antimilitarism destroyed the second International as Europe descended into a catastrophic war. Today, many socialist 1/2
