If only we could get Edinburgh to bid for this.
Back in 2001 Edinburgh and Glasgow did jointly host the Velo-city conference. It is now much bigger and way more prestigious ๐
It is time for Edinburgh to host it again!

North of Scotland there's likely to be even more miserable support. As usual the grid here is 100% carbon free and pushing power south. Guess though where's best to handle nuclear waste?
Crowded bus stop at Haymarket Station.
Child and parent enjoying safe city cycling.
That is a Paper Bicycle - as sold by LB over 10 years ago.
Two way cycle lanes aren't for everyone.
Bike watching at Haymarket - possibly the capital's busiest long distance bus stop.
New bike lane allows child to do a city journey by bike. A rare Paper Bicycle offers the sturdy weight of an e-bike but without batteries.
Road cyclist and couple of VOI rentals later by-passed the two way path.

Municipal greenery isnโt an added extra: itโs part of making us all healthier.

Santu Coffee Roasters Edinburgh.
Ditched the bike to do more prep for a run. Week 5 and now doing hills. (Craiglockhart East and West) Walk into city later for coffee at Santu.
Typical view out of shop window of traffic queuing for lights at Viewforth canal Bridge.
Another heavy private car traffic day on St Peter's Place. EVs are trending with high petrol and diesel prices. If cargo bikes got 1% of that heavyweight market then the city would save ยฃยฃยฃs on street wear and congestion.
Defunct Bafang and new Shimano Steps.
Shimano Drive Unit for cargo bike.
New MIK enabled rack for an Urban Arrow with light wired in.
If you have any LB sticker on your bike then you'll have years of experience of support with 'Joe's Bike Garage'. Replacing an old Bafang on retrofit Nihola. Shimano Steps warranty replacement on Veloe. Wiring in rack and lights on an Urban Arrow etc. Usual weekday work at our tiny shop (garage! ๐)
Was it meant to be an IC7? ๐ We reckon these are by far the quietest most comfortable ride + 4 horizontal bike spaces with 2 hanging. Only problem is huge step down height for some. Perth arrival platform lower than normal? That station needs a makeover of course. Cold, empty, lots of walking ๐ถโโ๏ธ๐ถโโ๏ธ๐ถโโ๏ธ

New arrival of MIK mounted Basil crates at shop to fully equip our longtails. Urban Arrow Breeze shown here with large crate. Just click it in place with easy removal. Mount can be locked of course. Rear child seats can use same mount. Veloe models and others are also using MIK mounting system.
Did an Audax once. May do one again. Good excuse to eat what you like of course! ๐
The stats here are horrific.
300,000 uninsured drivers on roads every day.
1 person affected every 20 minutes by an uninsured driver.
1 person a day left with life changing injuries every day by an uninsured driver.
Yet successive govts have failed to tackle this

Map of a bus and rail route from Kirkmichael to Haymarket. The closed shorter rail route via Fife is used by much of the direct M90 motorway. This used by electric Ember buses. Rail is electric from Dunblane / Stirling.
Doesn't get any faster than this on a Strathardle to Edinburgh commute! ๐ Heading down to Haymarket in 3 hours and 8 minutes. 71 & 57 buses then LNER from Perth.
Cheap single tickets on train only valid once a day on the 9.59 train from Perth. Expect a telling off if you have a ScotRail ticket! ๐
A friend who just bought a cargo bike said this post helped her family make their decision. Sharing again for all you cargo bike curious folks. gooutside.substack.com/p/two-years-...
An average vehicle is parked 95% of the time.
An average e-bike? This is where it gets complicated (in a good way)๐ฒ

Fiido budget cargo in for repair at Joe's Bike Garage. Big inners in stock. These tubes are 30psi but owner had run at 10psi and worn out.
Momentum Pakyak Yamaha motored longtail bike. What looks like a battery behind seat is a lockable load box.
Longtail market is one with new brands entering regularly. We offer Veloe and the new UA Breeze but quite aware of sub ยฃ2k alternatives around city. Two new (to us) are Fiido using a hub motor with 900Wh of 'fuel' and Momentum using Yamaha Mid-drive 500Wh battery. JBG replaced inner tube on Fiido.

'Cargo' is by far our biggest market with 'Comfort' (2 and 3 wheeled recliners) trailing behind. Furthest north delivery was Inverness ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ณ๓ ฃ๓ ด๓ ฟ Furthest south one was Bournemouth ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ฅ๓ ฎ๓ ง๓ ฟ
Most orders were for e-assist which is the norm for cargo although tandems work fine without.
Fascinating video - particularly on the improvements to street safety and uptake rates of cycling once streets have bike lanes.

Barely moving but legal? Not actually tried one. Can only afford to stay with 'traditional' Shimano Steps ICE trike with chain for now (!) As said on CityCycling forum can see it could be useful for 'adaptive riding' & maybe cargo where transmission complicates things. @chdot.bsky.social @edi.bike
You have a free map! One for you and @davecykl.bsky.social . Joe's Bike Garage has residency during week at LB if you're passing. D
Though @threadinburgh.scot was closer as Niall said internal belt. You can see why we don't do competitions. (!)
Been a good response to this. Thanks all for answers and contributions! Not sure who wins now - @davecykl.bsky.social for speed and @nialla.bsky.social around same. We have maps whatever if you drop round.

Yes @threadinburgh.scot also deduced it was something like that. Reverse gear also possible too which is handy on a trike! Been told by test rider in Cornwall that it works well. Now offered by Inspired Cycle Engineering on new ICE models. Are chains really needed for e-cycling? @edfoc.bsky.social

Er... yes... no mudguards is one thing I hadn't thought of. Bars underneath seat so hard to see. Chain is right answer though in this case. Discounted map available if you like!
You might be a winner! Created a bit of dialogue. ๐
