Release order. I think they're all kind of great in their own way (well, through 7). A lot of people think 2 is a lowpoint, but Singleton's direction is eye-popping and fun and Tyrese shines. Tokyo Drift (3) will seem like an outlier when you first watch it, but it becomes important later.

Not too much - I remember people talking about its shallow understanding/depiction of Japan, but most of the contemporary reviews are extremely praiseworthy (including of its visuals, which I still love, but I'm a fan of Accord's work generally). Lots of "throwback to the 70s" and similar claims.

I taught it last autumn and the kiss/age difference really killed it for them. I went back and read a lot of contemporary reviews and it's barely ever even mentioned. They still seem to have a lot of love for Virgin Suicides.

I'm such a small fish that I've no idea how I got on this list, but if it means an invite to Zoë's party, then I'm totally down with it!

It’s me! I’ve got two thumbs and just signed on to write the BFI Classic for Harold and Maude!

Here I am in a black jacket and a blue Hal Ashby t-shirt pointing those thumbs at myself - with posters behind me for Harold and Maude, Shampoo and The Last Detail.

What has two thumbs and just signed on to write the BFI Classic for Harold and Maude?

Absolutely incredible.

NASA Astronaut Reid Wiseman, who commanded Artemis II, took this footage from the far side of the Moon with his iPhone.

Watch with sound on.

Classic rock heads constantly complaining about pitch correction, quantising, sterile beats, etc. Check out a couple Rick Beato or Wings of Pegasus vids. Anti-AI totally in line w/ the whole ‘when we were kids a stick and a box were all we needed!’

I wholeheartedly commend all the dedicated Hungarians who fought so hard against Orbán and all his shitty little, mean-spirited minions for so long! Hajrá Magyarország!

Also, I know it’s just a bit of fun to blame the result on Vance’s visit. But this is the result of thousands of individuals - feminists, students , lgbtq groups, homeless advocates, and more - putting blood sweat and tears on the line for over a decade against an enormous cruel machine.

I absolutely love a good Budapest street party and I so wish I could be there tonight (tomorrow? this week?) when the good results come in. The joy ... the relief!

Good luck today Hungary - my deepest hopes are with you!

Also a fantastic historical irony here, as Orbán basically made his political name in a speech back in '89 when he called for Soviet troops to leave Hungary - just one of many ways he so clearly became what he once professed to hate.

The only way to durably protect hauliers - and the economy - against fossil fuel shocks is to support them to electrify trucks.

Sales of electric trucks in China outsold diesel trucks last December.

So far this year, only one electric HVG was newly registered in Ireland.

Ireland is complicit in genocide as long as the US military uses Shannon airport.

91yo Lelia Doolan - veteran peace activist, film-maker and firebrand - is leading a 16-day march from Shannon to Leinster House. You can join her at any point for any distance.

My latest column: Ireland’s data centre policy will drive significantly greater fossil fuel use, contradicting multiple statutory and policy targets which require rapid reductions instead.

If they pick an Ashby film, I'm probably going to share it no matter what, but I love how into each of his films Slattery is here.

The rage of music-reactor, guitar youtube at the moment ... this duo's crazy cool. Sounds like aliens playing their version of rock. Microtones, odd times, loops (loops across time changes), but also super funky and tight as.
