Which phone camera? How did you edit it? Just curious. It’s nicely done.

Mate. Too far.

Also, Topaz and DeepPRIME arguably are *generative.* You can’t denoise without manufacturing pixels. I’m saying that *most* of my best photographic art *is* modified by AI at some point. I use it *constantly.*

You’re missing my point, which is that generative AI isn’t different than any other machine technology that is taking over the *craft* of art. It’s been happening for ages. The camera is just an example. Defining art by its *craft* is problematic. Defining art *at all* is wrought with difficulty.

Spooky and awesome!

But plenty of photographers *are* up in arms about not just denoising AI, but even the process of postproduction (eg photoshopping). And what about the ever increasing levels of automation inside the machine? My Fuji has a full auto mode—is that democratization, or is it a marginalization of craft?

Occasionally I use DxO’s DeepPRIME XD for demosaicing and denoising images, and Fujifim’s AI autofocus system for taking images. Would you say this voids my copyright? I don’t think it does, legally. 2/2

You’re assuming all AI to be equal. The situation is more subtle. Not all AI is image generating AI. Take, for example, photography. I use two AI systems in my photography workflow: 1/2

I love bow ties. Apparently that makes me an asshole.

So…Bluesky is toxic. Tonight I got accused of mansplaining and was told I was an asshole because I wear bow ties.

So, shut up and dress different?

No.

It’s empowering drug research, climate research, space research and probably Bluesky. It’s in your browser and your operating system. It’s here and it’s real and dismissing it is utterly intellectually insane.

What? Are you sure? Have you ever even used a LLM? Do you know how they are flawed and how they are powerful? Do you really know what you’re talking about? We’re deploying AI on the enterprise RIGHT NOW in the academy and it isn’t going away.

You sure? I build supercomputers for scientists who model the future with mathematics. Your imagination has no value to me.

So you imagine.

I’m a democratic socialist. You don’t need to teach me about workers movements. And the Luddites were always, and always will be, morons. You have to adapt. Scribes were scared of the printing press. Because they lacked vision and perspective. As you do.

Libraries are digital archives now.
LLMs will be the new card catalog.

I double majored in English and philosophy. I’m currently in a Masters in Cybersecurity, and I think this is Luddite bullshit. LLMs are valuable, powerful tools. Ignore them at your own peril.
