one criticism i have of the Bof series as a whole is they really like to shove minigames and puzzles everywhere they can, which made them almost unplayable without some kind of guide lol but as an adult they mostly are easy

other Bof4 thoughts: the aesthetic of this whole game is very Nausicaa, Nina looks like Nausicaa even. I know not every japanese thing that takes place in desertous ruins and jungles is Nausicaa, but the dragons too, very Bug-like

i have heavy nostalgia for the series (though this is my first time playing 4) but it's very underrated imo. easily stands next to dragon quest and final fantasy

also i like how Fou Lu is functionally the same thing as Zero in Megaman. A display of how strong you can actually get in the game once you're not fighting eye goos and caps anymore

Bof4's OST is very much like "All the good tracks are on the Western continent/the midway point of the game"

I will say breath of fire 4's camera gimmick is terrible though for someone like me with poor directional sense

One thing I like about this series is its definitely beginner friendly (I was super young when 3 came out and managed to beat it) but it is not afraid to show some teeth. Especially some of the monster designs are downright fucking terrifying.
